Day 1 of the Netball SA Academy Games has been an exciting showcase of young talent, and the action will continue on Thursday, as teams hunt the title.
And as the action goes on, so will our live streams, right here.
By Thursday’s end we will have broadcast 42 games live.
Teams have been split into Division 1 and Division 2 and games are being played across four courts at Netball SA Stadium, with the live stream covering courts 1 and 2.
Division 1 teams include Adelaide Red, Northern Metropolitan, Southern, South East, Central Ranges, Northern Regional, Spencer, Eyre and Murray.
Division 2 teams include Adelaide Blue, Northern Metropolitan, Southern, South East, Central Ranges, Northern Regional, Spencer, Eyre, Murray and SAASTA.
The Games have been doubly exciting for the South Australia Aboriginal Sports Training Academy (SAASTA), which this year qualified to take part for the first time.
Coach Dani Johnson said before matches began that her girls were determined to make their mark on debut.
Johnson, who has been coaching SAASTA for years but is also in the same role for Southern at the Games, said the newcomers were ready to rumble.
“Getting into the Games is such a huge highlight this year and the SAASTA girls are very excited,” Johnson said.
“They’ve been working on their skills non-stop over the last eight months so they’re ready, and to get out on the court and be challenged by different girls in different regions allows them to gauge how they match up and gain confidence.
“They’ll realise that they are very, very good players.”
SAASTA’s first game loomed as a tough test against the Murray Academy, but Johnson believed her players would be able to prove their worth and draw significant attention.
“They’ve been playing against hard competition like St Mary’s, Blackwood and Henley High this year and done very well, so the preparation has been strong,” she said.
“These girls have a lot of talent and if they can play to their potential they’ll be able to open up opportunities to progress to higher levels of the sport.
“They love their netball and they want to win.”
Games are being streamed from court 1 and 2 simultaneously.
