Local SA footy is done and dusted for 2022 but many guns-for-hire have flown up to the Northern Territory Football League as the Top End season gets underway.
With the NT season now a few weeks in, we’ve listed the SA footy guns who are currently testing themselves against the best in the Territory.
Here is the list in alphabetical order of first name.
BEAU SCHWARZE – Glenunga
(Southern Districts)
Schwarze was a standout in the Adelaide Footy League last season for Glenunga, dominating up front as a small for the Rams in division one.
He has played three games and kicked three majors so far for Southern Districts as they sit in the top four of the NT Premier League.
CAM ELLIS-YOLMEN – Woodville-West Torrens
(Southern Districts)
The former Adelaide and Brisbane AFL star made multiple appearances for the Eagles last SANFL season and is now representing Southern Districts.
The versatile midfielder has played two games for the Crocs so far.
DANE MCFARLANE – Woodville-West Torrens
(Wanderers)
Coming off of a solid year with the Eagles, McFarlane has impressed for Wanderers in the early going of the NT season.
The tireless midfielder has already been named in his side’s best and should continue to dominate on the ball.
DARREN SHILLABEER – Barossa District
(Wanderers)
After dominating up front for Barossa District in the Barossa Light and Gawler Football Association, Shillabeer is back with Wanderers in the NTFL.
He booted 48 goals in 17 games in SA this year and will be one of Wanderers’ most dangerous players up forward.
DOMONIC GRANT – Old Ignatians
(Wanderers)
Grant had an impressive year up front and through the middle for Old Ignatians and has continued his strong form interstate.
He has been named among Wanderers’ best in the Premier League reserves and has two Premier League games to his name thus far.
ELLIOT CHALMERS – Myponga-Sellicks
(PINT)
The former Glenelg and North Adelaide gun was dominant in the Great Southern Football League during his first season with Myponga-Sellicks.
He has been one of the standout imports in the NT early this season, tallying two best-player appearances in his three games so far for the Green Ants.
ETHAN MANEY – Mount Barker
(Southern Districts)
Maney had a relatively quiet Hills Football League season, only playing seven games for Mount Barker as he struggled to stay on the park.
The backman has been getting repetitions in for Southern Districts in the NTFL Premier League, playing three games for the Crocs so far.
HASSAN AHMAT-WATKINS – Myponga-Sellicks
(Darwin Buffaloes)
A mainstay of the NTFL Premier League competition, Ahmat-Watkins has returned to Darwin after an exceptional year for Myponga-Sellicks.
The strong and skilled forward booted 32 majors for his GSFL club last season and has three goals in three games for the Buffaloes.
JOEL STEVENS – West Adelaide
(Waratah)
The young West Adelaide onballer is fresh off of a promising year in the SANFL and has impressed so far for Waratah.
Stevens has been a positive for his side in his three games and looks set for a solid NT season.
KAI PUDNEY – Woodville-West Torrens
(Southern Districts)
The former Port Adelaide prospect was a positive asset through the middle for Woodville-West Torrens’ reserves and league side in 2022 and has already had an impact at the Crocs.
His ability to win the ball and move it into space with speed and precision will add to Southern Districts’ outfit nicely.
KIM KANTILLA – South Adelaide
(Tiwi Bombers)
Kantilla managed to tally multiple games for South Adelaide’s SANFL side through season 2022 and has been a consistent forward for the Tiwi Bombers in the NT.
He has six goals through four games this season.
MITCHEL LOWE – Kalangadoo
(PINT)
A star defender for 2022 Mid South Eastern Football League premier Kalangadoo, Lowe has been impressive at the back for PINT.
If the Magpie champion can hit his best form, the Greent Ants will be a strong chance at a finals run in the team’s first season in the Premier League.
SAM MCMANUS – Kalangadoo
(Southern Districts)
A star teammate of Lowe’s at Kalangadoo, McManus should prove a major factor for the Crocs through the middle of the park.
He had 18 goals and 10 best-player appearances for the Magpies this year and has already been a standout for his NT side.
SAM OVERALL – South Adelaide/Victor Harbor
(Nightcliff)
Overall departed the SANFL at the end of the 2022 season and will play for Victor Harbor in the Great Southern FL, but before the 2023 season he has laced up the boots for Nightcliff in the NT.
He booted four goals in his one appearance for the Tigers so far and looks set for a big campaign up front.
STEVEN MOTLOP – Port Adelaide
(Wanderers)
Motlop has taken straight to the Northern Territory after retiring from Port Adelaide during AFL season 2022 in what was a major pickup for Wanderers.
The forward/midfield gun joins Marlon, Thomas and Matt Motlop at the NT Premier League club.
He has eight goals and two best-player nods in his three appearances and has been one of the NTFL competition’s best players so far this season.
TOM GADEN – Mundulla
(PINT)
One of Mundulla’s best in the 2022 Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara Football League season, star midfielder Gaden will now test his metal in the Northern Territory with PINT.
Has played one game for the club so far but should be a consistent performer throughout the season.
ONES TO LOOK OUT FOR
HAMISH HARTLETT – West Adelaide
(Nightcliff)
Hartlett’s brother Adam has previously revealed Hamish Hartlett wanted to experience NT footy after retirement and it would be Nightcliff if it happens.
While the reigning West Adelaide best and fairest will be undertaking a new role at Port Adelaide, it has not ruled out aspirations of playing in the NTFL this season.
JONATHAN GIANNINI – Payneham Norwood Union
Payneham Norwood Union’s star captain played seven games for Banks last NTFL season and could be a chance to compete in the competition again this year.
DYLAN ALDRIDGE – Proprietary/Risdon
Aldridge starred in the Spencer Gulf Football League in 2022 after playing two games for PINT, a club he may return to for season 2022-23.
