The hidden gems of Mt Gambier footy and Limestone Coast Football League

Some have already made a name for themselves while others are emerging as stars of the future. Here are the top 20 gems of Mt Gambier football league so far in 2024.

Mount Gambier’s Limestone Coast Football Netball League has had an action packed debut season in local SA footy.

The competition was formed this year after the Western Border league was wound up and will grow from six teams to eight next year.

As the race for finals footy heats up, we’ve broken down some of the leading performers and hidden gems of the competition so far this season.

FRAZER BRADLEY

(Millicent)

A premiership player in 2023, Bradley is already on track to beat his goal tally of 42 from last season.

He has 36 majors in 10 games and represented the LCFNL in interleague earlier this year.

LAWRENCE BRADLEY-BROWN

(West Gambier)

Leading the way for his side as it eyes off a finals appearance later in the season.

Consistently among the better players for West Gambier, Bradley-Brown is ruthless in the contest and skilled with the footy.

MACKYE BARON

(North Gambier)

One of the competition’s rising stars.

Still eligible to play under-17.5 footy, Baron has played most of his time in A-grade the last two seasons.

He also earned a SANFL under-18 opportunity with Glenelg in May.

JACOB CARGER

(Millicent)

The assistant of the powerhouse club who are seeking four premierships in a row, Carger can be a consistent goalkicker throughout each season and also dominates in the contest with his fearless play style.

Has 15 goals and two best player nods in nine games.

CALLUM CURRIE
(Casterton Sandford)

Returned to the club at the start of the season after years away and has become a consistent player, especially in front of goal. One of the recruits of the season, the forward/midfield utility has also previously spent time with North Ballarat in the VFL.

DIARMID CLEARY

(Casterton Sandford)

Earned Team of the Year honours last season and has continued on with the same strong form this season.

Has nine best player nods and a goal in 10 games.

TOBY DE WIT

(North Gambier)

Once again playing a key role for his side up front.

When he hits the scoreboard, he usually does with multiple goals.

Has 20 majors in 10 games.

BROCK EGAN

(North Gambier)

Returned to the club at the start of the season and has gone on to have a big impact.

In seven games he has played, Egan has been named in the best six times and kicked six goals.

FINN GRIMES

Playing even better footy this season after a strong 2023.

The Millicent skipper has continued to grow with every year in the senior program and can dominate on or behind the ball.

Has seven best player nods in 10 games.

MASON HEIN

(South Gambier)

In arguably the best form of his career for South, Hein has consistently been among his side’s better players this season.

Dominates in the middle and around the ground and also featured in the interleague game.

BRAYDEN KAIN

(South Gambier)

Has been a star player for South Gambier yet again this season, forward of centre especially.

He recently celebrated his 150th game for the club and should be a key player during the business end of the season.

LEWIS LEAN

(West Gambier)

One of the stars of the competition at his damaging best, Lean has not disappointed for the Roos this year with his ability to win the ball and dispose to teammates.

Has four best player nods in six games so far.

EMERSON MARKS

(South Gambier)

A reliable player for his side throughout the season as they look to continue battling for a place in the top-two.

Marks can play in a number of roles for the Demons and has seven best player nods in 10 games.

MICHAEL MINUZZO

(West Gambier)

Has previously spent time in the SANFL reserves earlier in his career.

Consistently among the better players for his side, Minuzzo is a dominant and tireless midfielder who can also hit the scoreboard on occasion.

BEAU NUNAN

(East Gambier)

Returned at the start of the season after time with Kaniva Leeor United in Victoria and has gone on to become one of his side’s most important players.

Has 12 goals and four best player nods in 11 games.

MITCHELL SIMS

(South Gambier)

Another rising star to keep an eye on given his best footy is probably still ahead of him.

A versatile player who can impact the game in the middle and up front, Sims has also been a consistent interleague representative in recent years.

CARL SLAPE

(East Gambier)

The strong forward has been a real leader for the club in recent years and is always able to get up the ground to have an impact.

Has 16 goals through his eight games.

SAM STAFFORD

(North Gambier)

Stafford has been one of North Gambier’s best.

A strong and efficient forward, Stafford is his side’s leading goalkicker with 22 goals from seven games.

Missed several games through the early stages of the year but his return has been a welcome one.

HARRY TUNKIN

(Millicent)

The strong and hard running onballer represented the LCFNL in interleague this season.

Has previously spent time with Glenelg’s SANFL reserve team and is now one of the top Millicent players.

SAM WILLIS

(Millicent)

Has Willis gone to another level after last year’s premiership? It’s a question worth asking.

He already has several mentions in the best this season and has consistently hit the scoreboard with 14 goals predominantly from the middle in his 10 games.
