Local SA footy’s top 25 goalkickers of 2024 so far revealed

The local SA footy season is approaching the business end and a number of star forwards are surging toward the 100-mark. See the 56 names who rank among the state’s top 25 for goals kicked in 2024 so far.

The local SA footy season is in full swing and a number of star forwards have been booting big bags across the state’s country and suburban competitions

With many names chasing the 100-goal mark in 2024, we’ve got the top 25 goalkickers of the season so far.

Check back each week of the season to see the updated standings.

Goalkickers with the same amount of majors will be ranked under the same number on the standings.

1. DANIEL WEETRA (Para Hills) – 93 goals

One of the few local forwards to reach the 100-mark last season, Weetra looks well on his way for Para Hills yet again in 2024.

While not the biggest of targets, Weetra boasts great athleticism and often takes impressive high-flying grabs to set himself up in front of goal.

Booted 20 goals against Mitchell Park three weeks ago to catapult himself to the top spot and has remained there since.

2. SHAWN MANSELL (Eastern Park) - 80 goals

Mansell has been a dominant forward for Eastern Park for a number of years and 2024 looks to be no different.

Quick off the mark and strong in the contest, Mansell wins plenty of his own footy up front and finishes efficiently in front of the big sticks.

3. CHRIS KNAPP (Eastern Park) – 77 goals

A star midfielder who returned to Eastern Park after a year with Loxton, Knapp has developed into a dominant utility in season 2024.

Has 61 goals so far including 22 against Elizabeth and 15 against Adelaide Lutheran.

4. JOSH ROSENTHAL (Fitzroy) – 70 goals

Rosenthal catapulted up the state’s local goalkicking rankings after booting 29 majors against Elizabeth.

A strong target with safe hands and a reliable set shot, the Fitzroy gun should go close to reaching the tonne if he can keep up his hot form.

5. DARREN SHILLABEER (Myponga-Sellicks) – 59 goals

A star forward of local SA footy, Shillabeer left Barossa District to join Myponga-Sellicks as playing-coach in 2024 and has

been a big pick-up for the club in a number of ways.

Shillabeer is an imposing player up front and has the ability to take strong marks and slot goals home from anywhere in and around the 50.

6. JAMES ELLIS (Fitzroy) – 57 goals

Supporting key forward Josh Rosenthal this season, James Ellis has been another dangerous goal sneak for Fitzroy.

A smart player who always finds space up front and finishes in a number of ways.

7. TREVOR RIGNEY (OSB Lonsdale) – 56 goals

One of the greatest goalkickers in local SA footy, Rigney still has what it takes to dominate up front at nearly 40 years of age.

Well-known for his ability to take high-flying screamers, Rigney can produce something out of nothing inside 50 and is a reliable shot on goal from open play or set shots.

8. SAM BASHAM (Victor Harbor) – 52 goals

A big target for Victor Harbor in the Great Southern FL, Basham should see plenty of opportunities come his way this year with Bryce Gibbs and Ben Heaslip joining Jesse McKinnon through the Roos midfield.

Has 34 goals in six games and should come close to reaching 100.

9. JAMES GAMEAU (Salisbury) - 51 goals

A crafty player with a nose for goal, Gameau has been a consistent player for Salisbury since joining from Two Wells.

The skilled forward booted 22 in 10 games for the Roosters last year and has already tallied 41 for the Magpies in division six.

10. JOEL AISH (Pulteney) – 49 goals

Joining Pulteney from Kapunda ahead of season 2024, Aish has been an important presence in the forwardline for his new club.

A strong forward who is hard to stop on the lead, Aish should remain a key focal point for his side this year.

11. BEN HAREN (Lockleys) – 47 goals

Haren has been one of Lockleys’ top players through recent seasons, booting over 100 goals for the Demons in 2022 and putting together a solid 2023.

The former Sydney and South Adelaide player is accurate by foot, covers ground well and takes big marks.

11. JAKE MARTIN (Houghton Districts) – 47 goals

Martin booted 49 goals in 21 games last season but his 44 goals in eight games this year has him on track for one of his top seasons in local SA footy.

The Houghton Districts target is always a threat for his side and can create chances for himself or others with ease.

12. MAX SMYTH (Mitcham) – 46 goals

A star goalkicker for Mitcham last season, Smyth has put together a strong 2024 so far.

An athletic player who covers the ground well, takes big marks and can finish from anywhere, Smyth booted 11 against Portland in round seven.

13. BRANDON RIGNEY (Ingle Farm) - 45 goals

One of the most skilled players in division six this season, Rigney has taken his game to another level after helping Ingle Farm to a div seven flag in 2023.

An athletic and strong asset in the forwardline, Rigney takes a number of big marks each week and is capable of kicking bags of goals.

14. RILEY CLAMP (Hahndorf) – 44 goals

Clamp made the move to Hahndorf after another strong season with Strathalbyn in the Great Southern FL and time with Adelaide in the SANFL.

One of the most versatile forwards in the Hills FL, Clamp’s ability to move around the ground and have an impact is as beneficial to his side as his ability to boot bags of goals.

15. DWAYNE ETTRIDGE (Western United) - 43 goals

A star goalkicker for Western United in the Western Eyre FL, Ettridge damages defenders with his strength, quick leads and accuracy for goal.

Booted six goals against Thevenard to move up the rankings.

15. JAK GOUDMAN-GLASSON (Hectorville) – 43 goals

A tall and agile forward who takes big marks and is efficient in front of goal, Goudman-Glasson remains a threat for Hectorville.

The Hounds have been one of the most productive sides in the division out of the middle and up front with the key target being one of the focal points.

15. TOM WOODS (Western United) - 43 goals

Woods has been a standout up front for Western United this season.

A top forward in the Western Eyre FL, Woods takes a number of big grabs each week and kicks impressive goals.

16. LLEYTON HEDGES (Western Districts) – 42 goals

Hedges has been a star for Western Districts for many years and 2024 has been no different.

An athletic and strong player who can take over a game up front with his marking and finishing ability.

17. COREY SOLLY (Kilburn) - 41 goals

Solly has been one of Kilburn’s best players since joining from Gaza and has continued to produce his best footy across the forwardline.

A strong key target forward with a big tank and impressive skills.

18. GLENN DRAPER (Hackham) – 40 goals

A star goalkicker for Hackham this season, Draper has been a standout in division seven.

Strong up front and fast off his mark, the Hawks gun causes problems for many defences.

19. JAKE JOHANSEN (Salisbury North) – 39 goals

Johansen’s play has gone up a level for the Hawks so far this year as his team continues to dominate division two under new playing-coach Luke Habel.

The former Woodville-West Torrens gun is dangerous in the air and at ground level and can finish in front of goal from any angle.

20. HARRISON CHANDLER (Browns Well) - 38 goals

Chandler has been dominant for Browns Well this season in the Murray Valley FL.

A skilled and powerful player who makes good decisions under pressure and finishes for goal efficiently.

21. NICK STEELE (Port Noarlunga) – 37 goals

A huge signing for Port Noarlunga this year, the former West Adelaide man has been at the top of his game in the SFL.

A strong target one-on-one inside 50 and a great finisher.

22. FRAZER BRADLEY (Millicent) – 36 goals

Bradley has been impressive yet again in the South East.

A speedy player who can do damage along the wing, up front or in the middle, Bradley has put together some big performances for the Limestone Coast FL’s top side.

23. ALEX HENTSCHKE (Glencoe) – 35 goals

Hentschke has done consistent damage for Glencoe up front in the Mid South Eastern FL.

An athletic and strong player who can win the ball in aerial and ground level contests and finish in front of goal with ease.

A dangerous forward for the Reds, Teague has performed at a high level this AdFL season.

Quick off the mark with safe hands and a booming leg.

25. TOM PILLION (Henley) - 33 goals

Pillion has produced another strong season for the Sharks in division three of the Adelaide Footy League.

A skilled and athletic player who takes strong marks and can finish chances from anywhere.
