Tatachilla Lutheran College has partnered with the McLaren Districts Cricket Club to establish a new $170k cricket upgrade, which will allow aspiring young cricketers the opportunity to train at the next level.
The new development will consist of four netted practice pitches valued at $150k, as well as a brand new $20k hard-wicket pitch that will be laid on the existing college oval thanks to a grant from the South Australian Cricket Association.
Tatachilla Lutheran College Business Director, Christo Botha said the new partnership was an example of community collaboration at “its very best”.
“We have worked together to secure funding from local, state and national bodies and turn this cricketing dream into a reality for our children and our local cricketing community,” he said.
“Our partnership demonstrates what can be achieved when like-minded entities work together to benefit the community at large.
“Tatachilla Lutheran College is delighted to be the home of this new cricket facility, which will not only support our local cricket club, but also enable our students to pursue the game of cricket in a way and at a level that they have not been able to before, right here on college soil.”
The development comes after the Onkaparinga Council’s announcement of a million-dollar, competition-level skate park designed for all skill levels coming to Aldinga Sports Park.
The new park will include a beginners’ ramp, greenery, viewing platform and shelter, offering a contemporary facility while giving riders a unique skating experience, Onkaparinga Council said
“Aldinga should develop as a point of difference facility which will offer local riders from Aldinga and the wider region a unique experience,” a report said.
The $1.3m skate park is part of a wider Aldinga Sports Park Master Plan redevelopment, developed to ensure new sports park facilities are combined with the school facilities and consider the further growth of the region.
President of the McLaren Districts Cricket Club, Len Labuschagne believes the partnership will entice aspiring cricketers from across the region.
“We hope our partnership with Tatachilla Lutheran College will encourage all amateur cricketers – girls and boys – to participate in cricket and build their confidence, focus, athletic ability and leadership and teamwork skills,” he said.
“Many of our junior club members attend Tatachilla as students, and so the new cricket facility will simply be a physical expression of a partnership that already exists while also being testament to our shared love of cricket and sport generally.”
Works on the new facility will commence in April this year and are expected to be completed by May.
