Eight specialty homes for people with a disability would be built south of Adelaide under a plan that includes a consulting room and carparking.
The proposal by DJM Property and Advisory would develop disability accommodation units providing “accessible features” for residents at 2-4 Heathersay Ave, Aldinga Beach to allow people with a disability to live independently.
“(This) will allow residents with function impairment (to) live more independently and enable the provision of support services in a safe and efficient manner,” a report published by DJM Property said.
“Prospective residents are assessed and approved according to their NDIS plan and pay a reasonable rent contribution along with other day-to-day living costs such as electricity bills.
“SDA housing is an important program to allow people with a disability to live independently and exercise choice and control over their lives. SDA residents have a lease and security of tenure and are provided with services funded under their NDIS plan according to their specific needs.”
A consulting room will house a future tenant who will provide services aligned with and supportive of the disability units, accommodating a wide range of health and allied health providers.
All eight units will have kitchens, living areas and a private open space designed according to NDIS accessibility standards, while five of the units will provide two bedrooms for occupants, each with accessible bathrooms and a third bedroom for an overnight carer.
The other three units will each have one bedroom for occupants and a second bedroom for an overnight carer.
A sensory garden has also been proposed for the “enjoyment by occupants of this supported accommodation facility” the report states.
“The garden will be planted with species that stimulate the five senses (sight, smell touch, taste and sound) providing a calming experience to aid relaxation and wellbeing.”
Two parking spaces will be provided for each dwelling, with access to the spaces via a shared driveway from Heathersay Ave.
Submissions are open until April 19.
