SACA Premier Cricket: Bailey Capel hits 100 against Kensington

SACA Premier Cricket season 2022/2023 is in full swing as the men’s and women’s first grade competitions complete another week of play.

While action has at times been cut short due to recent poor weather, many star players have already produced standout performances.

The competition has seen a slew of new recruits hit the pitch and we’ve listed those who have made the biggest impressions at their new club.

BEN CHARLESWORTH

Woodville showed plenty of positives in a draw against Port Adelaide during its first match, played over the weekend, and new arrival Charlesworth was a headliner.

The gun recruit from Gloucestershire in the UK made 95 in the top order to go along with 2021/2022 recruit Campbell Vadlja’s 141 runs.

He hit 13 boundaries including 10 fours and three sixes on his way to the total.

BHAVISHA DEVCHAND

(Northern Districts)

Devchand has been strong with the bat for Northern Districts since arriving from Victoria.

While the gifted batter has been unable to get to the crease consistently due to poor weather, her standout 52-run total as an opener against Sturt in round two of the women’s T20 competition gave Jets fans a glimpse of what she can bring.

BRAD FALLON

(Sturt)

Fallon took five wickets for just 22 runs over the weekend in just his second match this season as the Blues lost narrowly to Kensington.

This followed a 2/24 performance in a round one win over Northern Districts.

If the talented medium pacer can continue his early season form Sturt may again be a force in 2023.

CAM VALENTE

One of the biggest names in SA first grade cricket, Valente’s move to Port Adelaide has paid dividends for the club so far.

The star all-rounder has left a major impression on Port Adelaide teammates and coaches through his first two appearances, scoring 182 combined runs and taking six wickets.

The club looks to be one of the big risers in season 2022/2023 and Valente remains one of the key reasons.

JOSH KANN

(Northern Districts)

Kann’s potential was on full display through Northern Districts’ round two matchup against East Torrens.

The talented all-rounder from Hobart made a total of 72 runs with the bat and then took two wickets with the ball for the Jets as they toppled the Reds for 157 and recorded their first win of the first grade season.

Look out for Kann to continue dominating at the crease as he begins to fully gel with his Jets teammates and in the batting order.

KYLE BRAZELL

(Tea Tree Gully)

While his first outing against old club Adelaide Uni saw the new Bulls opener dismissed early, Brazell made amends with a solid bowling spell, as well as a strong performance last weekend against Adelaide.

Brazell top-scored in his performance as opener against the Buffalos, facing 126 deliveries for 64 runs including 11 fours as his side made a total of 8-271.

He has shown signs of what he can be for TTG and if he continues to settle it may spell danger for the competition.
