Top 10 local SA footy players of the week revealed

The 2025 local SA footy season kicked off over the weekend and a number of star players were at their best across the state. Here are our top performers from Saturday’s country and suburban action.

Local SA footy season is finally here and a number of star names are already making waves in their competitions after round one of 2025.

Here are our top 10 performers from Saturday’s country and suburban action in alphabetical order.

ALEX BARNS

(Kingston, Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara FL)

A dominant ruck/forward utility, Barns made the move from Morphettville Park to Kingston for season 2025 and gave Saints fans a taste of what could be to come on Saturday.

The North Adelaide premiership player was a star in the ruck against Padthaway, winning the majority of hitouts, finding plenty of the ball around the ground and also moving up front to boot three goals in a 64-point win.

ANDREW BRADLEY

(Westminster OS, Adelaide Footy League)

One of the top recruits in the AdFL this season, Bradley’s arrival at Westminster OS should make them a threat in division three.

The versatile former Glenelg captain was at his best on Saturday as the Dragons defeated Pembroke OS, winning contested footy and distributing efficiently as well as creating a number of goals for his teammates.

JADE CLEELAND

(Goodwood Saints, Adelaide Footy League)

Goodwood Saints kicked off the 2025 campaign with an impressive win over newly promoted division two side Lockleys and Cleeland was at the centre of the side’s success.

A versatile player who can play in the ruck, up front or at the back, Cleeland’s work around the ground was integral to the team’s five-goal win.

CLINT GALLIO

(Mt Burr, Mid South Eastern FL)

Mt Burr’s star playing-coach was one of the key cogs in his side’s 46-point win over Kalangadoo in the MSEFL on Saturday.

A strong midfielder with the ability to win a high number of contested possessions each week for the Mozzies, Gallio was among his team’s top players for disposals and also hit the scoreboard.

BEN HEASLIP

Former South Adelaide gun Heaslip was one of the GSFL’s top players after joining the Roos last season and looks to have picked up where he left off to start 2025.

A star midfielder for Victor Harbor with the ability to find the footy anywhere around the ground and also hit the scoreboard, Heaslip was one of his side’s top possession-getters and also kicked three majors.

SCOTT LYCETT

(Port District, Adelaide Footy League)

The former Power star was at his best against St Peter’s OC on the weekend, dominating in the ruck and up front.

Lycett did major damage through his tapwork and presence around the ground in the first three terms before moving forward to kick three goals, including the winner for his side.

DANIEL MENZEL

Reigning RMFL premier Coorong comfortably topped 2024 runner-up Mypolonga on Saturday and playing-coach Daniel Menzel was at his best.

The former Geelong and WWTFC star was a force in the contest and also had a major impact up front, booting a bag of five goals and setting up a number of teammates.

CORMACK O’REILLY

(Athelstone, Adelaide Footy League)

Athelstone was unstoppable against Brighton in division two on Saturday and O’Reilly was at the forefront of the Raggies performance.

Impacting the contest around the ground with his ability to find the footy and deal to teammates efficiently, O’Reilly was. a standout in his side’s 115-point win.

COREY SOLLY

(Kilburn, Adelaide Footy League)

A star key forward and ruck utility for Kilburn, Solly was dominant up front as the newly promoted Chics thrashed Hope Valley by 152 points in division three.

Taking a number of big marks, distributing well and also kicking six goals to lead all players, Solly’s contribution to the win was as big as anyone’s.

ZACH SPROULE

(Port Noarlunga, Southern Football League)

The SFL’s top goalkicker last season, Sproule will be a major chance for the gong again this year and got off to a hot start for the Cockledivers on Saturday.

A smart and athletic player up front who takes big marks and is reliable from anywhere in front of goal, Sproule kicked six goals as his side topped Happy Valley by 10 points.
