The Barossa Light and Gawler Football Association has been one of South Australia’s top country footy competitions for years and has no shortage of top drawer talent.
Based on this season’s form and with the help of league insiders, we’ve ranked the top 35 players in the competition for 2025.
Here are our rankings from no. 35 to 1.
35. HEATH GROWDEN
(Willaston)
An emerging youngster for the Donnybrooks.
A tall and a smooth mover, Growden can contribute at a high level in the middle and along the flanks with his ability to damage opposition with run and carry.
34. JACKSON DOCHERTY
(Tanunda)
Docherty has emerged as a standout for Tanunda across defence and in the middle.
A hard on-ball defender who attacks the contest fearlessly, Docherty is a top pressure player in the competition.
33. BRAD HOEPNER
(Nuriootpa)
A classy midfielder, Hoepner has been a positive for the Tigers yet again this year.
Finds plenty of the footy around the ground and always makes good decisions when in possession.
Has three best player nods in seven games.
32. LACHLAN HEINRICH
(Freeling)
An emerging star this year for Freeling.
Heinrich is one of his side’s most consistent contributors and can fill a number of roles for the Redlegs with his ability to read the play and damage with disposal.
Has six best player nods in seven games.
31. ARCHIE HADDEN
(Angaston)
Hadden has taken his game to another level this year.
A contested weapon and a threat in front of goal, Hadden covers ground well and always disposes efficiently.
Has six best player nods and six goals in nine games.
30. JACKSON PRESS
(South Gawler)
Press has been a consistent contributor for South Gawler again this year.
The Lions gun is a damaging halfback who is strong over the footy and has an elite kick.
Has three best player appearances in six games.
29. SAM SIBBICK
(Barossa District)
A young gun for the Bulldogs, Sibbick has been a standout so far this year.
Formerly an U18s star with Central District, Sibbick can dominate at half-back or on the wing with his run and carry and ball use.
Has five best player nods and five goals in six games.
28. SCOTT TAYLOR
(Kapunda)
A pure workhorse through the middle for Kapunda.
Taylor is a tireless midfielder who accumulates the footy at a high rate and sets up his teammates ahead of the ball.
Has four best player nods in eight games.
27. JAYDN GOODFELLOW
(Barossa District)
A former standout in the competition, Goodfellow has had a major impact since returning to Barossa District from Angle Vale.
Can dominate a game up front with his marking ability and reliable finishing and also pinch-hits in the contest.
Has 19 goals and four best player nods in nine games.
26. RUNE GILFOY
(Tanunda)
Starring as a key utility this season, Gilfoy is putting together another strong campaign for the Magpies.
The former Sturt man boasts great overhead skills and is a reliable distributor off of the backline or a consistent threat in front of goal.
Has eight goals and four best player nods in nine games.
25. STEVEN SUMMERTON
(Angaston)
The former Port Adelaide star has continued his impressive career in the BLG this season.
Summerton is a strong stoppage player with elite skills and the ability to find teammates anywhere around the ground.
24. MITCH NORTON
(Nuriootpa)
Norton remains one of the standout key defenders in the BLG competition, providing important security and composure for the Tigers.
Norton controls the backline, intercepting countless entries in the air and delivering to teammates at a high efficiency.
Has five best player nods in nine games.
23. PATRICK WHITE
(South Gawler)
One of the standout players in the BLG again this year.
White is a strong and athletic backman who quells a number of attacks in the air and also possesses the ability to move up front and dominate as a skilled forward.
Has eight goals and five best player nods in nine games.
22. LOGAN MCKINNON-COLLINS
(Kapunda)
Joining the Bombers from Broadview in D1 of the AdFL, McKinnon-Collins has starred as a utility.
A skilled key position player with great overhead ability and reliable distribution, McKinnon-Collins can also produce in the ruck.
Has six best player nods in nine games.
21. GAVIN SHEPHARD
(Angaston)
A well-known star during his time with Port District in the Adelaide Footy League, Shephard has been impressive for Angaston.
Averaging over two goals a game at centre half-forward, Shephard can also take spectacular grabs and set his teammates up with reliable delivery.
Has 16 majors and three best player nods in seven games.
20. JACK HENKE
(Nuriootpa)
One of the top utilities in the competition this year.
Henke is a major goal threat every week with his ability to create space and finish and he can also unlock defences with his delivery.
Has 21 goals and five best player mentions in nine games.
19. BEN CUMMINGS
(Barossa District)
Returning to Barossa District this year, Cummings has been a major boost for the club.
Versatile and skilled player who wins the footy, covers ground well and distributes efficiently.
Has five best player mentions in nine games.
18. LACHLAN ARNOLD
(South Gawler)
A young ruckman making his way as one of the premier bigs in the competition.
A hard worker who takes big grabs and also sets midfielders up with consistent tap work, Arnold can dictate a game.
Has four best player nods and 10 goals in seven games.
17. RHYS CANNIZZARO
(Nuriootpa)
Cannizzaro has continued to impress for the Tigers after a strong 2024.
A big-bodied midfielder who dominates at stoppage and racks up clearances for his side.
Has four best player nods and six goals in nine games.
16. FLYNN PISANI
(South Gawler)
Pisani did not make many appearances for the Lions last season but has been dominant this year after playing nine games so far.
One of the competition’s most skilled players around the ground, Pisani finds the footy and delivers to teammates efficiently.
Has seven best player nods.
15. ETHAN GANT
(Barossa District)
Gant has been a standout for the Bulldogs again this year.
A dynamic midfielder with impressive pace and skill, Gant racks up possessions and can cut opposition up with his distribution.
Has four best player mentions in seven games.
14. RYAN WILLIAMS
(Gawler Central)
A top key defender in the competition this season.
Williams can impress against any forward in the league with his ability to create a contest in the air and at ground level.
Has seven best player nods in nine games.
13. LEWIS COWHAM
(Tanunda)
Cowham has been a star since returning to Tanunda last year.
A smooth midfielder with reliable skills who is a great decision-maker under pressure, Cowham impacts the game in a number of ways.
Has five best player mentions and four goals in seven games.
12. TYSON IRLAM
(Willaston)
The star Donnybrooks mid has been a standout yet again this year, accumulating disposals for fun and leading his side to finals contention.
Irlam hits the contest hard, kicks goals almost every week and is one of the competition’s best users.
Has 11 goals and five best player nods in nine games.
11. JUSTIN HOSKIN
(Willaston)
A star mid/forward utility in the BLG, Hoskin has produced a strong 2025 so far.
The former Central District player has found his feet at the Donnybrooks and is now hitting the scoreboard with ease.
Has 21 majors and five best player nods in nine games.
10. AUSTIN POULTON
(Freeling)
Poulton has merged as a star of the competition this year.
A smooth mover through the midfield with a reliable kick, Poulton has been the key to the Redlegs midfield.
Seven best player nods and six goals in eight games.
9. JACK CARPENTER
(Barossa District)
Carpenter has been a standout again this year.
Mostly spending time at the back and in the contest this year, Carpenter defends at a high level, boasts a fantastic marking ability and is a reliable distributor.
Has six best player nods in nine games.
8. TOM CORCORAN
(Angaston)
Former Port Adelaide Magpie Corcoran has been one of Angaston’s most important players this season.
Corcoran’s ability to take over a game around the ground with contested ball work, distribution and finishing ability makes him a star.
Seven best player appearances and eight goals in nine games.
7. WYATT RYAN
(Kapunda)
A dominant utility who has returned to Kapunda after time with West Adelaide.
Ryan can take over a game with his tapwork in the ruck, aerial ability and his accurate distribution.
Has seven best player mentions and five goals in eight games.
6. JOSH WITTWER
(South Gawler)
A superstar midfielder/forward utility for the Lions, Wittwer has been dominant so far this year.
Highly skilled player in the contest who wins the footy for his side, distributes cleanly and is also a consistent threat in front of goal.
Has 18 majors and nine best player nods in nine games.
5. ISAYA MCKENZIE
(Willaston)
Back at Willaston full-time after an impressive SANFL career with the Crows, McKenzie has starred for the Donnybrooks in 2025 after a big 2024.
A strong and explosive player with supreme skills, McKenzie can play through the middle or up front to great effect.
Has 12 goals and three best player nods in eight games.
4. MARK EVANS
(Tanunda)
Evans has only played four games for the Magpies so far in his return to local SA footy after a year off but has been arguably the best player in the competition during his appearances.
A dominant player around the ground and up front who finds plenty of the footy, takes big marks, kicks bags and can set up teammates with classy disposal.
Has 18 goals and two best player mentions in four games.
3. NICK GREGURKE
(Nuriootpa)
The 2024 league medallist, Gregurke is in the midst of another big year.
A hardworking player with a great set of hands, Gregurke is a ball magnet who uses the footy exceptionally well and remains a major threat in the air each week.
Five best player nods and seven goals in seven games.
2. SAM COLQUHOUN
(Tanunda)
A consistent star each year in the BLG, Tanunda playing-coach has been a standout again this season.
The Magpies midfielder has guided his club to seven wins through his standout play and leadership, dominating the contest, cutting opposing defences up with his disposal and also hitting the scoreboard.
Has six goals and three best player nods in six games.
1. JARROD SCHILLER
(Nuriootpa)
Joining hometown club Nuriootpa this year after starring with Central District, Schiller has been huge for his side.
A versatile and highly skilled player who wins plenty of the contested footy, applies strong tackle pressure and creates for teammates with elite distribution.
Has six best player nods and six goals in eight games.
