ASCA club South Road all out for eight less than a year after being skittled for two runs

An Adelaide cricket side has been skittled for just eight runs – less than a year after a record low score of two. Plus a double hat-trick and more in this week’s local cricket wrap: Thrash Talk.

Here is what caught our eye at the weekend:

ROADIES ROADKILL BEFORE A LATE FIGHTBACK

When Adelaide and Suburban Section Nine team Happy Valley posted 127 against South Road, it might have thought it was not enough.

It was plenty.

The Roadies, albeit playing a few short, responded with just eight. Only one batter, captain Johnathan Finch (4), scored. Five players made ducks and four of the runs came from extras.

But in a great redemption story, South Road posted 116 in the second dig. Nick Bohn led the way with 64.

It was still three short of making Happy Valley bat again.

The lowly score comes less than a year after South Road was bowled out for just two runs in the same grade, which was believed to be a record low in the 119-year-old association.

The Roadies were dismissed in 11 overs against Sheidow Park at Reynella East College in January.

Credit to the side, which continues to show up and play cricket despite the tough run.

JACK AT THE DOUBLE

Port Adelaide cricketer Jack Jackson’s name was not his only double on Saturday as he snared a rare double hat-trick on Saturday.

The Magpies bowler ripped through Northern Districts with four wickets in four balls in a devastating over at the Paddocks.

Jackson finished with 5/14 in his six overs as Port bowled the Jets out for 159, chasing the Magpies 3/188.

Jackson also featured in one of the more quirky scorecards in a cricket game in the 2013 under-12 cup final.

It included Jack Jackson, Jaxon, Harrowfield, Jackson Docherty, Jack Tipping, Jackson Harmas, Jack O’Neil and team manager Lee Jackson.

DAN’S THE MAN

A superb all-round performance by Glenelg ANA’s Daniel Rowe almost won the ASCA Section Two game against Warradalde on its own.

After taking 7/23 to restrict Warradale to 164, Rowe came in with his team in big bother at 5/59.

His 54 (six fours, three sixes) was enough to carry his teammates to a hard-fought win.

ALL-ROUND WINNER

In the Para Districts’ under-16s, Dublin’s Jaidyn Bowley had the very tidy figures of 2/3 from five overs as Eyre Royals battled to 56.

He then plundered 102 not out from his team’s substantial 3/217.

BRAKES ON

It was a battle within a battle in PDCA Grade One.

Dublin was off to a tremendous start of 0/124, thanks to John Crosbie (130) and Ben Starr (53).

Enter Virginia’s Nathan Warren, who took 8/81 from 19 overs and stopped Dublin cashing in, flailing to 244.

Virginia was 1/37 at stumps.

SETTING THE PACE

In Turf’s B3, Concordia’s Bjorn Pederson set a cracking pace with 156 from 180 balls, featuring 17 fours. He was second out, with 256 on the board.

Then it all fell apart as nine wickets were lost for 44.

It will still be a mighty chase for Brahma Lodge.

SHARKS CIRCLE

It was a cliffhanger in ASCA’s Section Three, where ICC Sharks were chasing Warradale’s 8/270.

After early strife, Ben Crane powered ICC home with 138 not out and an exciting three- wicket win that came with no time to spare.

AMAN ON TOP

IN ASCA Section Seven, St George’s Aman Kapoor had a day out with 135, helping reach a healthy total of 330.

Western Youth looked to be in the hunt at 1/115, but the rest of the batting line-up was not with the program and 208 was all it could manage.
