A 60-year-old woman allegedly threatened to kill a former colleague after she was ousted from an organisation, a court has heard.
Wendy Janette Sutton, appeared via video link from Adelaide’s Women’s Prison in the Christies Beach Magistrate Court, charged with seven counts of failing to comply with her bail agreement.
The court heard Sutton had allegedly been sending abusive text messages and through social media to a former colleague, even tracking down her new residential address.
“The victim states Sutton blames her for being suspended from the group,” the police prosecutor said.
“In June, 2021, the victim was contacted by Sutton via text messages, she received abusive text messages calling her a f***ing retard followed by a phone call by the same number and various other phone calls attempted.”
The court heard from June 19 through 23, Sutton allegedly sent several more messages to the victim calling her a “murderer” and saying “I’ll find you”.
The court heard as a result of the alleged threats, the victim moved to a new address which she did not disclose out of fear of her own safety.
“On October 10, the victim found paperwork on her front porch with writing saying ‘I warned you, I will find you’,” said the police prosecutor.
“Later on she also received a Facebook message saying ‘got you’ from Sutton.”
While asking for Sutton’s release on home detention bail, Ross Colthorpe, for Sutton said the two had previously been friends but experienced a relationship breakdown.
“She (Sutton) was ostracised from her social group and organisation she was a part of and enthusiastic about,” Mr Colthorpe said.
“None of it relates to a form of violence or a threat to violence.”
Magistrate Lynette Duncan order a home detention report.
“It was highly threatening language and the complainant has moved to another address which she hasn’t disclosed and she (Sutton) said she was going to find her and she did and made it clear by leaving something,” Magistrate Duncan said.
Sutton will face court again later this month.
