A man will face trial in the Adelaide District Court after pleading not guilty to robbing an accountant firm and transferring himself significant funds.
Julian Raymond Summers, 36, denies hatching the scheme where he allegedly stole an accounting firm’s electronics and used them to transfer himself large amounts of money.
Last week, the Adelaide Magistrates Court heard Summers, who appeared by video link from custody where he is on remand, would be pleading not guilty to serious criminal trespass and multiple counts of theft.
During his bail application earlier this year, the court heard there was a break-in at accounting firm Wright Evans Partners in Wayville on November 13, 2020.
“Stolen from the premises were 18 computer towers, a camera, a Samsung tablet and a number of other electronic items,” a police prosecutor said.
“Seven successful transactions were made from an account of Wright Evans Partners into what’s called a mule account – totalling funds in the excess of $85,000.”
The court previously heard that a computer was then stolen from Groundline Engineering in Frewville on December 16.
“Police were advised by the victim that the stolen computer was online and had been remotely accessed by the victim’s IT company,” the police prosecutor said.
The court heard the remote access video provided to police allegedly showed pictures of Summers, as well as photos of large amounts of cash and drugs.
When police searched Summers’ house they allegedly found 40 mobile phones, hard drives, documents and a credit card linked to the accounting firm.
The court previously heard Summers, who was a drug addict, had been trying to turn his life around while in custody.
In the Adelaide Magistrates Court last week, Summers, of Hackham, pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Magistrate Simon Smart said some of the information had been laid incorrectly and asked prosecution for the changes to be made so Summers could be committed to the District Court for trial.
The charges were adjourned until later this month.
