Almost two decades in their Seaford Central shop and Seaford Gourmet Meats owners Sam and David Dicicco have no plans to slow down.

The family butcher has been named the best in Adelaide’s south after receiving 30 per cent of votes in our Delicious Local Poll with celebrity chef Matt Preston.

Mrs Dicicco said her family’s focus on good quality product and customer service as well as connecting with the community is what makes them one of the best.

“We’re family owned, all our staff are local and I think having that connection with our local community is really important,” she said.

“We offer really good quality product at a really good product and pretty much everything in our shop is South Australian.

“We’re lucky to have such an amazing customer base, we serve over 3000 people a week and just still being there and being as successful as we are even after 20 years is testament to something we’re doing right.”

Mrs Dicicco – herself a breast cancer survivor – was also one of the founders of The Pink Butcher, a program which sees Australian butchers turn their shops pink for the month of October to raise money for Breast Cancer Network Australia.

Fundraising was limited this year due to COVID but Mrs Dicicco estimates butchers around Australia have raised more than $100,000 for the cause in the last four years.

But despite the COVID pandemic, Mrs Dicicco said it’s been one of their busiest years yet as customers seek to support local.

“This year has really pushed people to want to support local,” she said.

“In a lot of people’s minds local equals fresh, it’s supporting local families and farmers and it’s a lot more important than what it used to be.

“People are also getting more confident in teaching themselves how to cook at home.

“This year, we’ve really seen a swing back to the home cook and people wanting to teach themselves and change things up for their family.”

Hallett Cove’s Tendawrap Butcher placed second in the vote with Ellis Butchers in McLaren Vale rounding out the top three.
