A southern suburbs couple have been remanded in custody after allegedly befriending a fellow pub goer when learning of his pokies win, before robbing him of his car.

Ronald Ridge, 25 and Lana Rae Williams, 31, faced the Christies Beach Magistrate Court on Monday, charged with aggravated robbery.

The court heard on July 28, the couple were at the Colonnades Tavern when they allegedly met the victim who had won around $1000 on the pokies.

“The accused and co-accused said they had nowhere to stay … He (the victim) gave them some money and brought them some food,” the police prosecutor told the court.

“They asked him for a lift to a Reynella winery … they played the pokies there for a while.”

The court heard the couple then requested for a lift to Christies Beach, which the alleged victim refused.

“The victim says after this he felt a sharp object against his neck which he assumed was a knife,” the police prosecutor said.

“The male (Ridge) asked him for his money before the victim fled for safety.

“It was then he realised his keys were still in the car and the couple (allegedly) drove off.”

Police alleged the car, a Nissan X-trail and the $1000 was also stolen.

The court heard CCTV footage from both venues was used to provide identification on both Mr Ridge and Ms Williams.

The court heard Mr Ridge did not provide a statement to police but Ms Williams acknowledged they had attended the winery with the alleged victim.

“She gave a different version, saying the victim made sexual advances on her and acted like she owed him for the money he had given her,” the police prosecutor told the court.

“She said she was scared, got into the driver’s seat and drove away.”

Ms Williams’ defence counsel told the court it wouldn’t be uncommon for the alleged victim to not tell police of any alleged sexual advance towards Ms Williams.

“She’s quite slim and she felt she had very limited options in that sense, the alleged robbery is contested,” defence submitted to the court.

Mr Ridge did not apply for bail, Ms Williams will return to court later this week for the return of a home detention report.
