For Cheryl Hunt, running a business in the Onkaparinga area has been a dream come true.

The co-owner of Ivybrook Farm has been at the helm for more than 20 years alongside husband David, producing wine from 9ha of shiraz, tempranillo and mourvedre vines.

“We planted our first vines in 1997 once the farm was handed down to us and we haven’t looked back,” the 54-year-old says.

“We initially grew grapes for other wineries like Hardy’s and Wirra Wirra until our son decided to become a winemaker and open a small cellar door to enhance our farm’s offering.”

The Maslin Beach property not only produces wine, but hosts weddings, food and wine events and has self-catering accommodation.

“We love sharing what we have here and giving people a lovely experience...it’s what makes all the hard work worthwhile.”

Mrs Hunt is passionate about supporting local and says it’s what keeps her business ticking.

“Not only does it encourage us to keep going, but by us supporting local we are supporting caterers, musicians and a whole range of people we hire for our events.”

Ivybrook Farm is nominated in The Messenger’s inaugural 2019 Onkaparinga Business Awards.

She says it’s important for these types of awards to exist, so hardworking South Australians can be recognised among their communities.

“It’s important to reward people and businesses, particularly the quiet achievers, so we are thankful to have been nominated.”

There are 14 categories in the 2019 Onkaparinga Business Awards including best tourism experience, best eco-friendly/sustainable business and best start-up business.

Nominations closes on Wednesday, October 2, and public voting will commence on Wednesday, October 9.
