Summertime shenanigans are starting early again this year as one of Adelaide’s most popular outdoor aquatic facilities prepares to open next week – marking the start of the 2024/2025 swimming season.
Following record-breaking attendance last year, the Marion Outdoor Pool will open its doors to the public next Monday, September 30, for another extended 30-week season.
Marion Mayor Kris Hanna said the Oaklands Road facility is looking forward to welcoming visitors back for another busy year.
“The Marion Outdoor Pool continues to be a favourite destination for residents and visitors,” Mayor Hanna said.
“With a longer season and a variety of activities on offer, we’re expecting another successful year.”
This season will see the introduction of multiple new programs such as dry land fitness and yoga classes held on the lawn, and sensory sessions designed for children.
The pool will also host three movie nights in December, January, and April for members of the community looking for entertainment.
In addition to the new activities, the pool still has all its standout features that people have come to know and love, including its 50m lap pool, recreation pool, two notorious water slides, the splash park and the shaded learner and toddler pools which are perfect for families with young children.
People who want to visit the Marion pool can organise memberships for lap swimming, general admission passes, and book birthday parties or classes online.
Meanwhile, in Unley, the Unley Swimming Centre has been open to swimmers since August, following the centre extending its operating season in an effort host displaced swimmers while the new Adelaide Aquatic Centre is under the construction.
The Unley Swimming Centre already boasted the longest swim season in the state – 36-weeks commencing in mid-September and ending at the end of May each year – but when the AAC closed its doors on August 1 this year, the USC opened theirs, a month and a half earlier than usual.
