A high-speed police pursuit south of Adelaide ended in a three-car crash on Wednesday, with a major investigation now launched into the incident.

According to police, patrols attempted to stop a white Holden Commodore after it was allegedly picked up travelling 146km/h in a 60km/h zone at Port Elliot Rd in Middleton on the Fleurieu Peninsula at 9pm.

Police said pursuit of the vehicle was terminated as it entered the 100km/h zone on Port Elliot Rd.

Minutes later, about 9.10pm, police found a three-car crash at the intersection of Boettcher Rd and Port Elliot Rd.

Witness Debbi Smith spoke to 7News Adelaide and said she watched on as three police patrol cars pursued the suspect through Goolwa shortly before the driver crashed into two cars.

“Oh he would’ve had to have been doing at least 120 km/h … at least,” she said.

Meanwhile, another witness, Paula Bates expressed her disgust at the driver’s actions.

“It’s a horrible thing to have happened when someone is irresponsible and just being an idiot, and then they cause other people so much trauma and pain,” she said.

The 41-year-old driver of the Commodore was found with serious injuries.

A 65-year-old Goolwa South woman was one of the other drivers, her Land Rover rolling during the high-speed crash, though her injuries were not serious.

A 35-year-old Goolwa North man’s car was also clipped during the crash, but he was not injured.

The three vehicles were towed from the scene and the busy Fleurieu thoroughfare reopened overnight.

The driver of the Commodore is expected to be charged with multiple driving offences, while investigations into the crash are ongoing.

No injuries were considered life-threatening.

It comes just days after a separate incident in which a 20-year-old Goolwa Beach man was left fighting for life after a single-vehicle crash at Currency Creek.
