New aerial images showing progress on Adelaide’s new Aquatic Centre development have been posted to social media by Premier Peter Malinauskas.
Two of the pictures show the site during the early stages of construction as the foundations of the new facility take shape – with excavators removing more than 22,000 cubic metres of soil in preparation to build the base structure.
The third picture shows an artist’s impression of the centre nestled in the parklands of North Adelaide with the CBD’s skyline rising in the foreground.
The Adelaide Aquatic Centre is set to close on August 1 as major works continue on the new $135m centre next door, with more than 100 swimming groups relocated across the city.
Infrastructure Minister Tom Koutsantonis said the new centre would be ready by summer of 2025/26.
Recreational swimmers, organised groups and Learn to Swim users can visit the Department for Infrastructure and Transport’s web page to find alternative arrangements while construction of the new centre continues.
Mr Malinauskas is no stranger to a bit of publicity around the Aquatic Centre. He famously set tongues wagging during the 2022 state election campaign when he flaunted his chiselled rig while announcing Labor’s pledge to build a new centre.
