A drug deal gone wrong is what led to a bloody shooting at Kurralta Park last month that left a 19-year-old in hospital and the alleged shooters on the run, a court has heard.
Malise Rachel Schalk, 32, of Taperoo, on Tuesday became the second person to face court charged with attempted murder over the alleged shooting.
During her appearance before Magistrate Paul Foley in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court details about what led up to the incident were finally made public.
The court heard Schalk and her co-accused, Jaidon Khan Thorpe, headed to a meet up with the 19-year-old with Mr Thorpe allegedly armed with a gun.
The teen, the court heard, had allegedly armed himself with a taser.
Mr Foley briefly described the circumstances of the meet-up as counsel for Schalk appealed for her release on home detention.
“On the allegations it’s a drug deal and one party turns up with a firearm and the other turns up with a taser to defend themselves,” he said.
“The applicant attends with a person … who has and uses a firearm and wounds the victim.
“Both men turn up with weapons, it would seem.”
Schalk’s lawyer told Mr Foley his client had a defence and just happened to be in the company of Mr Thorpe without knowledge of what was going to happen.
The court heard after the alleged shooting, which left the teen with a wound to his stomach, Schalk allegedly picked up his phone and made off with it, for which she has been charged with aggravated taking property.
Mr Thorpe, 26, of Prospect, earlier this month faced court charged with attempted murder over the shooting, which happened at an Anglicare block of flats about 2.30am on January 22.
Mr Thorpe was arrested alongside his partner, Shanice Flanagan, and both were charged with aggravated robbery, firearms offences, trafficking in a controlled drug and trafficking in a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug.
The court on Tuesday heard Schalk had prior convictions from 2013 for drug trafficking.
Police prosecutor Nick Fatchen told the court he opposed any form of bail for Schalk because the chance she could interfere with an ongoing investigation into the shooting.
He said the gun alleged to have been used in it had not yet been found.
Mr Foley denied any form of bail for Schalk and remanded her to next face court alongside Mr Thorpe and Ms Flanagan in May.
