Kai Maxwell Fallows released on bail, charged with serious domestic violence offences

A man who allegedly choked his former partner, as well as bounding her to a chair before urinating and defecating on her has been released on bail.

Communities need to take a 'stronger stance' on domestic violence

EDITOR'S NOTE - All charges were dropped in April 2024.

A man who allegedly bashed and choked his then partner, stemming from a background of degrading and violent acts has been released on bail.

Alleged domestic abuser, Kai Maxwell Fallows, 34, applied for a review of bail in the Supreme Court last week, after two previous unsuccessful bids.

The court heard Mr Fallow’s ex-partner, Natasha Bridgland – who granted the Advertiser permission to name her – was allegedly violently assaulted by him in September.

“Immediately after the complainant woke up, she alleges she was punched five or six times,” the prosecutor said.

The court heard Mr Fallows allegedly stood on Ms Bridgland’s forearm – which was across her neck on another occasion.

The prosecutor said there was a history of alleged abuse, including a currently uncharged “gruesome” incident in November 2021.

The court heard Mr Fallows accused Ms Bridgland of cheating on him, before binding her to a chair and using a number of sex tools on her.

Ms Bridgland was allegedly defecated and urinated on by Mr Fallows, as well as being gagged with a rag.

Sean Nottle, for Mr Fallows, told the court a significant number of charges were withdrawn earlier this month, leaving choking and causing harm with intent.

Mr Nottle said a housemate living with the couple at the time of the alleged offending contradicted Ms Bridgland’s statement.

The court heard Mr Fallows “vehemently contested” the allegations and had work at a trucking company available to him if released on bail.

Justice Kevin Nicholson agreed the charges were serious, but released Mr Fallows on bail, due to his limited criminal history.

He said he believed home detention conditions would provide Ms Bridgland with enough protection.

The charges were adjourned until April, where Mr Fallows, of Myponga, will be expected to enter pleas.
