The State Government has revealed a first look at the Aldinga B-12 School as construction continues at the southern super school.
More than 606 people have been employed on site to date and 526 local contractors engaged to build the Port Road school, which is scheduled to open in 2022.
Concrete slabs and steel frames have been installed for a number of the school’s buildings which will include an “entrepreneurial hub”, a performing arts centre with a 300-seat auditorium and a gym.
Education Minister John Gardner said it was an exciting time for the southern community.
“This new school will be a welcome addition for many families in this rapidly growing area, and I know that many people in the local community are watching the progress of its construction with great excitement,” he said.
“This school is meeting a critical need presented by the growing population of young families in Aldinga and surrounding areas, while delivering a modern, state-of-the-art birth to Year 12 school for families to access.”
The school is set to be called either Payinthi Coastal College, Payinthi Southern College or Aldinga College B-12, with an online survey to decide the name.
The school will accommodate 1675 students including 100 places for students with a disability and a 75-place early learning centre.
Its enrolment zone will take in students from Maslin Beach in the north to Sellicks Beach in the south including Port Willunga, Aldinga and Aldinga Beach.
In July, Willunga Primary principal Alison Colbeck was announced as head of the new school.
The Education Department is currently recruiting other leadership positions.
