Names to be chosen for Aldinga, Angle Vale and Whyalla schools

Generations to come will yell these names with passion as their school battles it out on sports and academic contests. So getting it right from the start will be crucial. See the shortlist of names here.

Local communities are being invited to help choose the names of the three new schools being built in South Australia.

Three or four options are being presented to the public in an online survey for each school in Aldinga, Angle Vale and Whyalla.

“Deciding on a new name is a significant step in forming the identity for these new schools,” Education Minister John Gardner said.

“We are confident that contribution from the local community into the names will provide a sense of connection and ownership between the schools and their prospective communities.

“We encourage people located in the communities where these schools will be built to jump online and complete the short survey.

“Construction of the new schools is taking shape and these communities can look forward to having access to world-class education facilities from Term 1, 2022.”

The proposed names for each school were developed by advisory committees made up of the school’s principal, neighbouring school staff and local parents.

One option uses the word Payinthi – pronounced bay-in-di – which in the Kaurna language means to seek, examine and think.

The fourth new school, at Goolwa, will have options chosen once a steering committee is established later this year.

The Government paid just over $5m to buy the Goolwa school from Investigator College, which has consolidated on its Victor Harbor campus.
