Australia’s top selling beers for 2022 revealed

A brand new taphouse is set to launch in Adelaide’s south, with the owners hoping it will help reinvigorate the area.

Beer No Evil’s Paul Sparkes beamed with excitement as he spoke about the new Lonsdale taphouse, which he will share with Ryan Bickley’s Lone Gum Farmhouse.

“It’s really exciting, we have had about three different spaces fall through so to finally have landed here with Ryan, it’s incredible,” Mr Sparkes said.

“We really want this to be a place locals can enjoy and hopefully make the drive worth it.”

The new site, which was conveniently an old brew house, can host up to 200 people across two levels, and also contains a commercial kitchen and a retail section.

“We’ve still got a few council things to sort out regarding carparking and capacity,” Mr Sparkes said.

“But we’ve already had such a good response from people from all over asking when we are opening and looking to set up beer tours, it keeps us motivated and on track.”

Originating in his Glenelg home, Mr Sparkes said Beer No Evil could no longer keep up with the supply and demand of his growing business and acknowledged the unusual call to move away from the heavy foot traffic of Glenelg.

“I’m just running out of room to brew, even now I’m down to the last of my last,” he said.

“We were always keen to stay in Glenelg but we were quoted about $100,000 in rent, it was just madness.

“I was basically having a cry to Ryan over a beer and that’s when we thought, let get in together.”

With a strong heavy metal influence, Beer No Evil specialises in all things beer from their Drop Beer Hazy Session Ale through to their barrel-aged stout.

“The exciting thing about this space is that Ryan and mine’s products are so different, we may eventually branch out from beer but for the mean time we are happy for them (other businesses) to be covering all the gin and wine needs,” Mr Sparkes said.

“I could really see us taking over a number of the shops in this block but we also really love to open up a second smaller taphouse somewhere in the future.”

Mr Sparkes hopes the taphouse will be open for the public to enjoy by the middle of the year.
