Police are investigating after a man was pulled unresponsive from the water at O’Sullivan Beach on Thursday morning.
Emergency crews rushed to the boat ramp after reports a person was floating in the water about 10.30am.
Police and fire crews helped retrieve the 29-year-old man, from Christie Downs, from the water but he could not be revived.
Two young fisherman told The Advertiser they spotted an object near the rock wall, and called for help.
“We saw something that looked like a pipe, but then we had a closer look,” the witness said.
“We got on the phone to triple-0 and got a couple people to come over and check it out.”
Police are investigating the death, which is not being treated as suspicious.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Officers had cordoned off the nearby walking track but it has since reopened.
