Pepper Tree Cafe in Aldinga hits the property market

A beloved live music venue deep in Adelaide’s south has been listed on the market, despite a claim the business was only temporarily closing.

A popular southern music venue has been put up for sale despite a Facebook post saying the business was only “temporarily closing”.

Now, the prestigious venue has hit the market with a price guide for $1.5m, listed with Professionals Robert van Gasteren.

The Pepper Tree Cafe site is located on 1.93ha, just on the outskirts of Aldinga, with the option to either take over the current venue or make the site your own.

“Previously operated as a popular, multiple award-winning live music venue on the weekends only, there is scope to expand trading hours to several days a week with your own cafe, function centre or perhaps a cellar door,” the listing states.

“Alternatively, the cafe could be leased separately to generate passive income while you enjoy the rural lifestyle.”

The cafe, which is owned by Mark and Tanya Crago, shared the listing on their Facebook page claiming “the sky’s the limit with this amazing property”.

The cafe made the announcement it would be closing its doors in November despite having an action-packed silly season line-up of talent.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances we will be closed until further notice, please contact bands to organise a refund for tickets. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience,” the cafe announced.

“Please note this is not a permanent closure, it is only temporary.”

Many keen concert goers expressed their disappointment at the initial announcement, hoping that it wasn’t the end of their beloved venue.

“I’ve been coming for years and have so many fun memories from each visit, with heaps of friends in tow,” a patron wrote.

“Thank you for all you’ve done, a fond memory is allowing us to boogy in our seats during Covid … even that didn’t stop you from keeping the musical cogs turning.

“I hope it’s not the end of Peppertree Inn.”

The cafe has been contacted for further comment.
