Cabins and orchards would transform a 1.285ha property on the edge of the Murray Mouth near Goolwa under a proposal to help boost tourism in the area.
Plans for 31 Frome Road at Currency Creek include four 65 sqm tourist accommodation cabins, a vegetable garden, internal driveways and a horticultural shed to prepare and process fruit and vegetables.
In a report published by planning consultants C L Rowe & Associates, the proposal seeks to achieve a “more accessible and ‘user-friendly’ development” by increasing the floor area in all four cabins as well as the addition of mezzanine floors with bedroom lofts.
“I trust the proposed variations will meet with council approval,” the report says.
Recently, the town made headlines after Currency Creek jockey Chelsey Reynolds fell into an induced coma after a fall at Finniss during training in mid February.
The 28-year-old was flown from the Fleurieu Peninsula to Flinders Medical Centre in a critical condition, where she was placed in an induced coma.
Reynolds, who is indentured to Wayne Francis and Glen Kent and has seven winners from 52 rides, tasted success in her very first race, saluting on The Great Baby at Balaklava on July 30 last year.
Earlier this month, Racing SA updated their community on the condition of the horse rider.
“Chelsey remains in intensive care at the Flinders Medical Centre where she is being treated for a serious head injury,” they posted on their Facebook page.
“Her sedation levels are being reduced and she is opening her eyes, but is not yet responding.
“Chelsey’s family have told us that her recovery is going to be long and slow, but she will continue to have all the care and love she needs.”
