A Myponga man has been charged with rape after he allegedly assaulted a teenager in a southern park earlier this month.

A Myponga man has been remanded in custody after he allegedly raped a teenager in a park at the beginning of the month.

Andrew Nicholas James Morton, 37, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrate Court on Monday after he was charged on February 11 with four counts of engaging in sexual intercourse with a person without consent.

Police allege a 17-year-old girl was approached by Mr Morton on a yellow motorcycle at a park off Derrick St in Seaford Meadows before she was sexually assaulted.

The offence is alleged to have happened between 2am and 4am on February 9.

Detectives attended an address in Myponga and arrested Mr Morton on February 11.

No pleas were entered when he faced court.

Mr Morton will return to court later this month.

Across town, a 50-year-old Medindie man is facing similar charges after he allegedly forced a 13-year-old girl into a near bushes and tried to rape her.

SA Police alleged Anthony James Stengewis approached the girl on Walkerville Terrace, Gilberton, and asked: “do you have a boyfriend?”.

They alleged that, when the girl told Mr Stengewis to “go away” he assaulted her – and that the entire incident was heard by her sister, whom the girl had called on her phone.

Mr Stengewis, 52, was arrested on February 9, 2022 and charged with one count of attempted engaging in sexual intercourse with a person without consent.

Magistrate Stefan Metanomski said the allegations were too serious to warrant any form of bail and remanded Mr Stengewis in custody to face court again in May.
