A southern suburbs man was left terrified after a bloodied home invader repeatedly screamed he was going to kill him as he attempted to break in.

Allan Phillip Demos, 42, pleaded guilty to a number of charges in the Christies Beach Magistrate Court including serious criminal trespass and resisting police.

The court heard around 11pm on March 23 of this year, the victim was asleep when he was woken by a loud banging on their front door from a man unknown.

“The defendant was yelling that he was going to kill him, the victim called out multiple times that he was going to call the police.”

The victim was waiting in the loungeroom for police when he heard a window smash in the spare bedroom.

The victim called out that he had the wrong person while Demos continued to yell that he was going to kill him.

“The victim was in genuine fear for his life,” the police prosecutor said.

“He had grabbed a cricket bat for protection before opening the front door, finding the defendant standing with a large tree branch.”

The court heard the victim ran away from the property before knocking on neighbouring doors.

“Police attended the yard ... the defendant was holding the stick down by his right hand side and had blood on him.”

Demos was previously sentenced to four years imprisonment in the Adelaide District Court in April 2020 for causing serious harm to another and served a non-parole period of two and a half years.

Demos’ defence counsel told the court the night of the offending, Demos was hearing voices in his head and was convinced his teenage daughter was inside the victim’s home.

“He wanted to check to see if she was okay, he appreciates the significance of what he has done and is sincerely apologetic,” defence said.

“He has placed himself in the shoes of the victim and if anything like that happened to him, he would be traumatised.

“He was just wandering the streets and the voices in his head told him his daughter was in the house, he didn’t want to hurt anyone.”

Demos will be sentenced later this month.
