Your verdict is in. After more than 2500 votes, South Australians have decided where to find the best bakeries – from the city and suburbs to your country favourites.
It seems the long queues to get their baked goods is worth it, with Port Elliot Bakery winning overall bragging rights, followed by Ned Kelly’s Bakery at Alberton and Lobethal Bakery in the Adelaide Hills.
Port Elliot Bakery senior apprentice baker Russell Kleinig said the team was excited about being named best bakery in SA in The Messenger’s latest poll.
“Our team here at the Port Elliot Bakery are very dedicated to providing the best service and quality products, so we are beyond happy to have such recognition,” Mr Kleinig said.
The bakery opened in 1989 and, since then, has been a popular spot, not only for locals, but the wider community when visiting the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Its doughnut of the month is what reels people in the doors.
Just some the doughnut creations include lemon cheesecake, Fererro Rocher, triple choc Tim Tam and Oreo.
“We are always creating and working on new and exciting ideas for our doughnut and pie of the month and they’re definitely hot sellers,” Mr Kleinig says.
The bakery credits its success to using fresh produce daily, baked on the Port Elliot premises.
