Rebecca Baker: A snap of gratitude is all it takes — here’s why I am embracing #SnapAdelaide
IF you’re anything like me, you’ll be over the he-said-she-said of American politics saturating our newsfeeds — and be more interested in real life, real people much closer to home, writes Rebecca Baker.

DON’T care whose bum US presidential hopeful Donald Trump has pinched this week? Unperturbed by Hillary Clinton’s “unlikeability”?
If you’re anything like me, you’ll be over the he-said-she-said of American politics saturating our lounge rooms and newsfeeds.
It’s staggering to think the race to lead a global superpower has been reduced to “locker room talk”.
Seriously, the behaviour we’re seeing on our screens is enough to make 10-year-old kids shake their heads in bewilderment, going against everything they’ve been taught about how to treat others.
I, for one, am happy to focus on things closer to home, the things that really matter. Real life, real people.
It’s one of the reasons I am loving Messenger Community News’s latest campaign, SnapAdelaide, which aims to bring the community together to celebrate what we love most about our part of the world, our city, through pictures of everyday life.
It’s about taking a few minutes out of our busy lives to stop and appreciate the simple things: a sunset, a smile, children at play.
We’re just a week into the campaign but the pictures I’ve seen have made me smile, reminding me of how lucky I am to live where I do.
A favourite is a proud young boy smiling widely as he hands over a bunch of flowers he and his dad have carefully chosen for his mum. And a set of adorable triplet girls delighting in their reflection as they dance in front of the Mall’s Balls.
There’s been a jetty shot, a simple picture of two friends sitting side-by-side in a pool, a mum handing out fruit to kids at a local footy match and a simply gorgeous little girl dressed in pink, walking next to a lone seagull along a deserted beach.

ach week until mid-November, we’ll be celebrating a different facet of community life — the larrikins and characters in your street, the hidden neighbourhood gems where locals head for a lazy Sunday breakfast.
It will culminate on November 16, a national day of action and image sharing.
What makes you grateful to live where you do? What is it that reminds you to take a breath and reflect on all that is good in your life?
