Semaphore’s Sotos Fish Shop voted best fish and chips in South Australia

In a world of quick and instant, it can be hard to find some gold old fish and chips on your Friday night.

Now, thanks to our latest Best Of series, the search is finally over and we can now reveal where you can grab the best fish and chips in South Australia after more than 1300 votes flooded in.

Sotos Fish Shop, a staple in Semaphore for more than 70 years, has taken out the top spot.

Co-manager Craig McKay said the team were humbled by the result.

“My parents owned the lolly shop a couple of doors down and they became quite friendly with the previous owner,” Mr McKay said.

“When he mentioned that it was for sale, my father, who was in his early 60s, decided to buy a fish and chip shop.”

With all the changes that have transpired throughout the world in the last two years, Mr McKay believes the beauty of a Friday night run to your local with never go out of style.

“Fish and chips is a good old reliable, it’s always the same and it’s good comfort food,” he said.

“Our fresh cut chips are what we are known for, we use fresh potatoes, never frozen.

“It’s something the customers love, it’s a bit nostalgic and a bit old school.”
