Whether you’re on a beach in summer or curled up at home in winter, it’s hard to imagine anything more enjoyable than tucking into a bag of hot chips.
But where can you find the best crispy-on-the-outside, deliciously-soft-on-the-inside chips in Adelaide?
That question has divided the city for years, with parochial South Australians split between their local shops around town.
If you ask nine-year-old Mitchell, he’ll tell you the chips at The Golden Wishbone on Marion Rd are “delicious” and “the best hot chips I have ever eaten”.
“Chips are my fave fast food because hot chips on cold days warm my tummy up – and I love the flavour of them,” he said.
A recent national poll by travel site Wotif rated the offering from Chicken Chef shop in Blair Athol as the country’s best.
Not far behind were Sotos Fish Shop, in Semaphore, and Chicken Cave, in Fulham Gardens, who also made the national top 10.
