Baby Ellie is full of smiles
Williamstown mum Samantha Mann considers herself lucky to know she’ll experience two special smiles from daughter Ellie.
The four-month-old was born with a cleft lip and palate which doctors will repair with surgery before her first birthday.
Ms Mann said despite some complications with feeding and her hearing Ellie was a happy baby whose smile could light up a room.
“She has the best smile, she smiles with her eyes and her whole face lights up,” she said.
“We think we’re lucky that we’ll get to see two of her smiles, one before the surgery and one after.”
Ms Mann and partner Tony learned of Ellie’s diagnosis at her 20 week pregnancy scan and knew little about the condition.
She said the experience had given her a new appreciation of what some children and families go through.
“We didn’t know anything about it but being able to experience this really makes you realise there’s a lot out there that people don’t know about,” she said.
“When you wake up to her giggling in the morning it’s all worth it and I wouldn’t change anything.
“I think it gives us a greater respect for being a parent and you appreciate things a bit more.”
Ellie is one of 39 babies nominated for cutest smile in our SA’s cutest babies series.
