Plans have been lodged for a new and luxury retirement village in one of the city’s most popular southeast suburbs.
The plans, submitted by URPS on behalf of Torrens Health, propose a six level retirement village with 37 apartments for over 55s.
“The apartments are equipped with the necessary amenities and are tailored to the needs and lifestyles of older residents,” the document said.
“The retirement focused development offers communal facilities and recreational areas both on the ground floor and on the rooftop to provide residents with opportunities for socialising and enjoying shared amenity.”
The proposal states that the building, which will front Belair Rd, will be complete with 59 carparking spaces and a ground level with a multipurpose room and gym.
The first, second and third floors are proposed to have 11 dwellings each and the fourth will have four.
The fifth four will have a common lounge and dining area.
URPS, on behalf of Torrens Health, said in the proposal that the building will “enhance the variety of housing in the locality”.
“The proposal is intended to allow retirees to ‘age in place’, by downsizing to a more manageable property,” it said.
“Providing such housing options is an important part of healthy and thriving communities but will also contribute to the availability of housing in the locality.”
Torrens Health – an Australian owned and operated company – employs over 7000 people across 3000 individual locations.
“The proposed development explained below expands upon the success of Torrens Health and is intended to allow nearby residents to ‘age in place’, meaning to downsize from their existing homes into a purpose-built facility owned and operated by Torrens Health,” the proposal reads.
