It all started with trying out a new laksa recipe for this Pooraka mum – now she’s one of RecipeTin Eats biggest fans.

Emily Daniele will be front and centre when the beloved food blogger Nagi Maehashi comes to Adelaide in March, for a sold-out cooking demonstration part of Salisbury Council’s Author Series.

The Salisbury Council have confirmed “it’s doing everything it can to consider how the community can access this exciting opportunity given the overwhelming community demand”.

With one of her most popular recipes called Salisbury Steak, Ms Maehashi – who prefers to be called a food blogger – has created a massive online following for her easy, cost-effective recipes that families love.

Emily Daniele, 45, uses Ms Maehashi’s recipes, both online and from her new cookbook DINNER, in her weekly meal rotations for her husband Neil and two young children – and has become a huge fan of the versatility, affordability, accessibility and deliciousness.

“She’s got a recipe for everything … I rarely use any other recipe for anything,” Ms Daniele said.

“It’s so accessible, she gives you all the different cuts of meat that you can use if you want to use a cheaper cut, her steps are easy to follow.

“And also the vegetarian options, which are always generally cheaper, with lentils or chickpeas or things like that are very tasty.”

Ms Maehashi’s recipes have become one of the Daniele family’s affordable kitchen staples alongside bulk buying, batch cooking and shopping savvy.

“We’ve always been very frugal with our shopping, we stick to a budget and we purchase stuff when it’s on special,” Ms Daniele said.

Ms Daniele will be accompanied by her Poolworks Tea Tree Gully boss, Cathy Karkafiris, to the RecipeTin Eats talk.

“We are very excited, and then when I found out everyone couldn’t get a ticket, I was like, ‘oh my god, I must be so lucky’,” Ms Daniele said.

Nagi will present a talk alongside a cooking demonstration and sign her new cookbook at the Salisbury City Centre.

She said she couldn’t wait to visit Adelaide as South Australia has “an amazing local food scene” that she is “super keen to explore”.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting the locals and cooking up something special for RecipeTin Eats readers,” she said.

“Everyone is welcome to bring their DINNER book, or buy one on-site for me to sign.”

RecipeTin Eats started in 2014 when Ms Maehashi – alongside her now celebrity dog and chief taste tester, Dozer – started sharing recipes with her now millions of fans.

Her recipes are built on the belief you “can make great food with everyday ingredients even if you’re short on time and cost conscious”.

Tickets for the event sold out within the first two hours of the events announcement, with proceeds being donated by Ms Maehashi to the Fred’s Van Meal Service provided by the St Vincent de Paul Society.

Salisbury Mayor Gillian Aldridge said she was looking forward to hosting Ms Maehashi.

“Her dedication to making sure everybody can eat well, regardless of experience or wealth, is something to admire,” Ms Aldridge said.

“There are many people within our community feeling the pressures of the cost of living right now. Recipes help our community to improve their literacy and non-profits like hers support vulnerable people, who deserve to eat as well as anybody else.”
