A popular Kangaroo Island restaurant – which provides diners with an unforgettable experience – is introducing a new head chef.
The Enchanted Fig Tree, located within a fig tree that is more than 120 years old, allows diners to eat exceptional food – while shaded by the leaves of a huge fig tree.
Now, the well-known restaurant is welcoming a new chef who promises to bring an exciting menu consisting of food linked to her memories.
Alana Brabin, who runs Big Bad Wolf Catering with her business partner, will also incorporate edible foods from the region including samphire, saltbush, boobialla – and of course, fig leaf.
Ms Brabin said she aims to honour the seasons and promote sustainability through her use of alternative meats, including Kangaroo, which has less impact on the environment.
The esteemed chef said many of her fond memories are connected to food, with both her parents being big entertainers as she was growing up.
Ms Brabin’s menu will consist of a variety of meals inspired by her own menu.
A carefully crafted combination of American River oyster, boobialla and fig syrup – a warm reminder of the beach shack.
Pate, mulberry and macaron hark – afternoon tea with grandma.
And, finally: KI Marron mousse paired with crumpet and samphire – a reminder of the countless yabby-catching sessions with extended family.
Ms Brabin will be delivering her delicious meals in the second part of the season at The Enchanted Fig Tree from January 31 to April 8.
