A party gatecrasher who allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl blocked the door during the attack, a court has heard.

Patrick Morie Bannah, 28, and Jonathan Zahinda, 26, are standing trial in the District Court, denying they preyed on the intoxicated child.

Mr Bannah, from Elizabeth Grove, is an award-winning afrobeat recording artist and a music engineer.

The Liberian singer and songwriter, who performs under the name ConCcoins, is known for several hits.

Ahura Kalali, for the prosecution, told the District Court in his opening statement the alleged victim was at an 18th birthday party in an Adelaide Airbnb apartment in October 2020.

The court heard the alleged victim drank alcohol for the first time and tried cannabis before going into one of the bedrooms.

Mr Kalali said Mr Bannah then came into the bedroom and allegedly started touching the alleged victim’s genitalia, with her telling him to stop.

Mr Bannah allegedly went on to attempt to sexually assault the child again before leaving the room.

Mr Kalali said Mr Zahinda then came into the bedroom later in the evening and also allegedly raped the girl.

The police conducted an investigation and Mr Zahinda then sent the alleged victim a message.

“The message was quite lengthy, but it did say along the lines of ‘drop the charges’,” Mr Kalali said.

The court heard the alleged victim recognised Mr Bannah by photos on his Instagram page –

‘Con-C-coins’ and his tattoo sleeve – while her friend identified Mr Zahinda as the other alleged offender.

Giving evidence, the host told the court she didn’t invite any boys to the party as it was supposed to be an only-girls’ pyjama party.

The host said the party started getting “out of control”, before she put the alleged victim in her room to sober up.

The court heard the host tried to get into the bedroom later in the evening but had to forcibly push it open as something was blocking the door.

“Jonathan was on top of (the alleged victim) when I walked in the room,” she said.

The host said she started yelling at Mr Zahinda, threw his clothes at him and threatened to call the police if he didn’t leave.

Mr Bannah, and Mr Zahinda, of Bordertown, are charged with rape and unlawful sexual intercourse.

Mr Bannah is also charged with attempted rape and attempted unlawful sexual intercourse while Mr Zahinda is further charged with dissuading a witness.

They pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The trial before a jury continues.
