A predator who sexually abused a child for close to a year and was found with “repulsive” videos on his phone has been jailed.
Nathan James Moorhouse, 30, manipulated the vulnerable victim in the “most disgusting and immoral way” for his devious interests.
The District Court heard Moorhouse first met the 14-year-old victim in February 2020.
They formed a friendship which quickly turned into a sexual relationship over the next 11 months.
The court heard Moorhouse sent the victim sexual videos and engaged in sexual activity with her on multiple occasions, including in the car and at parks and playgrounds.
The court heard Moorhouse told the victim not to tell anyone about their relationship.
“You told her you wanted her to get pregnant,” Judge Davison said.
“As the relationship progressed you became more jealous, threatening and controlling.
“She felt pressured on a number of occasions to engage in sexual activities. She told you to stop on some occasions.”
The victim eventually told her father who reported it to police.
After searching Moorhouse’s home they found child exploitation material of the victim, as well as three videos of him masturbating his dog.
Moorhouse, of Osborne, pleaded guilty to maintaining an unlawful sexual relationship with a child and bestiality.
The victim described in her victim impact statement how Moorhouse manipulated and changed her life, while her father said his offending caused them significant stress and trauma.
The court heard Moorhouse was working at the Wingfield bottle depot until his arrest.
The court heard a psychologist believed Moorhouse exploited the vulnerability of the victim to fulfil his own emotional needs.
“Similarly, she (the psychologist) believes that the … bestiality was borne out of your own poor ability to establish appropriate boundaries and perhaps your desire to impress the victim in order to maintain the relationship,” Judge Davison said.
Judge Davison said Moorhouse behaved “in the most disgusting and immoral way” and bestiality was “repulsive to all right-thinking people”.
She sentenced Moorhouse to 11 years jail, with a non-parole period of six years.
The sentence was backdated to April 6, 2021.
