Jacob Donhardt stabbed brothers Nicholas Feast and Jordan Feast in Father’s Day brawl at Midway Tavern

A wild brawl between two stranger families on Father’s Day erupted when one man whipped out a knife and stabbed two brothers, including one to the face.

Alleged stabbing at Midway Tavern

A man stabbed two brothers at the Midway Tavern during a “fast moving and violent” brawl after a simple game of pool turned into chaos.

Jacob Anthony Donhardt, 24, escalated the fight between feuding families by brandishing a flick knife and stabbing Nicholas and Jordan Feast on September 6, 2020.

The court heard Donhardt and his family arrived at the Midway Tavern around 7pm and started playing pool.

They were approached by the victims’ father, Matthew Feast who asked if he could join the game.

The court heard Donhardt’s mother became irate by this and started berating Matthew.

One of the Feast family yelled profanities to Donhardt’s mother and a physical altercation kicked off.

“He (Donhardt), with a pool cue comes charging towards Matthew Feast from the point that he was at the end of the pool table and he is clearly calling something,” the prosecutor said.

The court heard Matthew then said “what did you say you f***ing c***” and grabbed hold of Donhardt’s shirt.

Donhardt then struck Matthew Feast over the head and body with the pool cue which snapped in half, before continuing to forcibly strike him.

One of the victims, Nicholas Feast then ran over and punched Donhardt, before a brawl broke out between the families.

Donhardt then brandished a flick knife.

The court heard the second victim, Jordan Feast was outside having a cigarette when the brawl broke out.

“He’d heard a commotion coming from the front bar area, he sees it’s his brother and father … so he joins the fight,” the prosecutor said.

Jordan became involved in a fight with Donhardt’s stepfather, Garry Frost, at which point Donhardt grabbed Jordan by the shirt.

“It’s during this pushing and shoving exchange in the hotel … that Jordan Feast gets stabbed to his face and his arm,” the prosecutor said.

The court heard Nicholas and Jordan – who was armed with a pool cue and now bleeding profusely – confronted Donhardt and chased him out into the parking lot.

Nicholas then grabbed Donhardt by the shirt.

“They wrestle for a short time and that’s when the offender stabbed Nicholas Feast in the stomach,” the prosecutor said.

“The offender says ‘back off or I’ll kill you’.

“So clearly it was a fast moving, violent altercation. It was all over … in under six minutes.”

The court heard Donhardt had changed his clothes by the time authorities arrived.

“He’s well aware he stabbed two people and he flees and comes back in different clothes which aren’t bloodstained,” the prosecutor said.

Donhardt, of Elizabeth Park, pleaded guilty to two counts of causing harm with intent.

The court heard Donhardt had only been given a suspended sentence for committing a knifepoint robbery five weeks before the offending.

The prosecutor said Donhardt clearly had long standing anger management issues, aggravated by drug and alcohol use.

Will Mickan, for Donhardt, asked the court to sentence his client on “excessive self defence”.

“Mr Donhardt makes numerous attempts to retreat whilst outside and that leads directly into the offending in the context of count two,” he said.

Mr Mickan said Donhardt essentially begged the victims to stay away and was kicked to the head during the brawl.

Judge Anthony Allen said Donhardt’s guilty pleas showed some acceptance of his guilt.

“But comments like ‘no-one talks to my mum like that’ and him still deeply resentful about the behaviour of victims and their party, it’s not a complete or absolute acceptance of wrongdoing is it?” he said.

Judge Allen adjourned the charges until next month.
