The Boradview Football Club’s clubrooms are set for a much-needed $5.8m facelift in a project punters have spent years begging for.
The City of Prospect, in partnership with City Collective have tabled a report with Plan SA to redevelop Broadview Oval and construct a new two-storey sporting hub.
According to the report, the proposal will become a significant investment in the council area to rebuild a well-serviced and much-loved asset of the Broadview Football club.
The current existing single-level clubroom facility will be demolished to make way for the two-storey community facility that will encompass a gym, new change rooms, a medical room as well as a kiosk at ground level.
The upper level of the building comprises the community facility space, with a dining space including a dividing partition, kitchen facility, toilets, storage area, and a bar.
The project is supported by council, state government, and the Broadview Football Club through funding which includes a contribution of $3.15 million from the City of Prospect, $1.5 million from the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing, and $250,000 from the Broadview Football Club.
It is also a part of a larger oval redevelopment that could see 13 tennis courts, a playground, a dog park, three bowls greens as well as various clubrooms.
For years, residents have been pining for the upgrades that could see many of their local sporting clubs become a premier location for the city.
In 2019, Prospect Mayor David O’Loughlin said a ‘stick of dynamite’ would be welcomed at the site.
“The roof leaks, the floor slopes, the change rooms are barely adequate and you cannot see the play from the clubhouse,” he said.
“The last thing that is needed is for another ad hoc add-on to the existing clubhouse structure. What it needs is a stick of dynamite.”
Public consultation for the development closes September 9.
