The spirit of Christmas is officially back after another council announced a beloved event will return to its leafy streets for this first time in more than two years.

After a forced break due to the pandemic, the Norwood Christmas Pageant will back with all its colour and glory and is expected to attract a record crowd.

“It is one of most loved and anticipated events in our city – with more than 20,000 people expected to watch the festivities along The Parade this year,” Mayor Robert Bria said.

“After the very disappointing news for the past two years that the pageant could not go ahead, we are calling on the community to help us celebrate in style and in the spirit of Christmas.”

The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is calling on the community to play an important role in the iconic event, which will be held on Saturday 26 November.

The council are inviting expressions of interest with a range of exciting pageant roles

available – from wearing a festive costume to joining a float – as the procession makes it way down The Parade.

“Not only does the pageant create long-lasting festive cheer, it also provides a boost to our local economy with many families and residents staying in our city to enjoy our world-class food and hospitality,” Mayor Bria said.

“The Norwood Christmas Pageant provides a wonderful opportunity for community groups, schools, businesses and individuals to participate in the festivities.

“We have an exciting selection of colourful costumes – many which have been lovingly made by the council’s hardworking volunteers. These costumes come in a range of sizes and styles – so there is something for everyone.”

Just last week it was announced the state’s largest Christmas carols will return to full capacity, two years after it was completely cancelled due to Covid.

Modbury’s Civic Park Christmas Carols, hosted by the Tea Tree Gully Council, is slated for December 11 in a move expected to attract more than 30,000 attendees.

Along with being the largest event of its kind in the state, it is the third largest in the country and deputy mayor Lucas Jones hailed it returning to its normal capacity.

“Our carols event has become a tradition for many and we can’t wait to put on another great show for our community,” he said.

“Our community loves our events.”
