In what is believed to be a South Australian first for an outdoor shopping precinct, the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters has launched a gift card for Adelaide’s premier main street, Norwood’s The Parade.
Endorsed by the Norwood Parade Precinct Committee, the concept was created by the council in order to help boost the local economy.
“From stunning fashion, unique interiors and world-class dining, The Parade offers the ultimate shopping experience,” Mayor Robert Bria said.
“If you can’t decide on a present, The Parade Gift Card is perfect – for even the fussiest friends or family members.
“The Parade Gift Card is part of a package of measures the council has delivered to help boost the local economy so far this year.”
A similar voucher scheme was rolled out in March by council to entice foodies to travel east and spend up big at the struggling hospitality sector.
Earlier this month, prominent developer Pep Rocca said with the right vision, The Parade could become comparable to Melbourne’s South Yarra and Sydney’s Paddington while pushing for tram services.
“I’ve worked in Norwood for 30 years, my whole life is on The Parade,” he said.
“People want to reside where there’s cosmopolitan living. They want excitement.
“It would be wonderful to restore the original tram line on The Parade.
“Trams are used in all the best metropolitan places in the world to connect people with the central business district. This is the way of the future in any progressive city.”
