A man among an alleged gang of thieves accused of a terrifying crime spree across Adelaide – where multiple houses were targeted – has been denied bail.

Home invasion laws: Your rights in Australia when an intruder breaks in

A man will remain in custody accused of multiple break-ins across Adelaide, including one where the homeowner was punched in the face.

Emmanuel Kanga Samuel, 21, applied for home detention bail in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday, charged over the terrifying crime spree.

Mr Samuel, of Munno Para West, is charged alongside Blaise Serugo, 21, and two youths with an array of serious offences including aggravated serious criminal trespass, unlawful detention, theft and aggravated assault.

A fifth man is still on the run from police.

A prosecutor told the court they were “strongly opposed” to all forms of bail, as the alleged victims had been “severely affected” by the break-ins.

Police allege the gang began their crime spree around 1am on October 9 in Ingle Farm when they broke into a house and assaulted the 25-year-old occupant, punching him in the face and demanding cash.

Two of the group held the victim upstairs while others searched the house. It is understood some of the suspects were armed with a knife.

The group left the home empty-handed in a silver sedan, but were seen shortly after running from a house at Windsor Gardens, before fleeing in the same sedan.

The thieves stole wireless earbuds and a smart watch and the occupant was not home at the time.

Around an hour later, the 30-year-old occupant of a Hendon address heard a loud bang at the front of his house and on investigation, discovered the front window had been smashed and the front door damaged.

The suspects did not gain entry, but weren’t done yet.

Just before 3am, the 73-year-old occupant of a West Lakes house woke to noises and saw a figure at her bedroom door.

The woman arose and discovered her handbag and keys had been stolen.

PolAir tracked the car from above along the Port River Expressway and Elder Smith Dr before it stopped on Grasswren Way and five people ran from the car.

Police Dog Rusty and his handler went to the scene and with the assistance of PolAir and patrols located four of the five suspects.

Police searched the car and found the keys from the West Lakes home along with gloves, knife and alcohol.

The court heard Mr Samuel was only released from custody in April for two counts of assault and choking.

Kate Budzynski, for Mr Samuel, told the court he was a young man and had a supportive family.

She said there could be significant delays committing the charges to the District Court.

Magistrate Roderick Jensen denied Mr Samuel bail and adjourned the charges until January.
