Cooper Leslie McGinley death by dangerous driving charges re-laid

A rollercoaster journey through the courts has continued for a young man charged over the tragic road death of an Andrews Farm woman who was hit on the northern expressway.

The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

Charges laid against a young Para Hills man in the wake of a tragic road death in June last year, which were dropped in May, have been re-laid.

Cooper Leslie McGinley, 22, on Wednesday learnt in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court he would again be facing a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.

Mr McGinley also faced charges of driving under the influence of meth, leaving the scene of an accident after causing a death and driving without due care.

The major indictable causing death by dangerous driving charge carries with it, if found guilty, a maximum prison term of 15 years.

Police alleged Mr McGinley was driving when he hit a 44-year-old Andrews Farm woman on the Northern Expressway at Ward Belt just before midnight on June 15, 2021.

Police say the woman was driving her Holden Cruze when it crashed into wire cabling on the median strip, lost control and spun.

She then got out of her car after the crash when a Mitsubishi Triton, which police say Mr McGinley was driving, allegedly collected the woman and killed her.

The Mitsubishi was allegedly found 1km away from the scene.

The woman’s family was in court when the charges were initially dropped in May.

When Mr McGinley initially faced court on the charges in July last year a police prosecutor requested an eight month adjournment to collect evidence.

By the time Mr McGinley returned to court, the court was told the most serious charge would be withdrawn.

Mr McGinley will now face the Adelaide Magistrates Court in January next year.
