A man has been charged after allegedly fleeing the scene of a horrific crash near Gawler that left a woman dead.
A Holden Cruze was travelling north on the Northern Expressway at Ward Belt, about 11.30pm Tuesday, when the driver crashed into wire cabling on the median strip and lost control, causing the car to spin.
A second vehicle, a Holden station wagon, travelling north on the expressway shortly after, swerved to avoid colliding with the Cruze, but also clipped the wire cabling, and came to a stop a short distance away.
As the driver of the Cruze stepped out of her vehicle after the crash, a Mitsubishi Triton drove past the incident, allegedly crashing into the female driver.
The Andrews Farm woman, 44, died at the scene.
The Mitsubishi was found 1km away from the scene, with the driver, a Para Hills man, 21, arrested.
He was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash, causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of driving without due care. He was granted police bail to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court in July.
Major crash investigators were still at the scene Wednesday morning before leaving at 8am.
Traffic was flowing unimpeded Wednesday morning with the broken median strip the only evidence of the accident to passing drivers.
Trucks and heavy vehicles that couldn’t turn off at Two Wells were forced to wait at the scene before investigators left.

It follows a fatal crash at Culburra on the Dukes Hwy on Saturday morning.
A B-double truck and a Toyota four-wheel drive crashed head-on near Schubert Rd about 1am.
The driver of the Toyota, a Mallala man, 50, died at the scene.
