A young Para Hills man has faced Elizabeth Magistrate Court after allegedly fleeing the scene of a horrific crash near Gawler which left a woman dead.
Cooper McGinley, 21, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and leaving an accident scene after causing death.
On June 15 police reported a Holden Cruze was travelling north on the Northern Expressway at Ward Belt, about 11.30pm, when the driver crashed into wire cabling on the median strip losing control, causing the car to spin.
“A second vehicle, a Holden station wagon, travelling north on the expressway shortly after, swerved to avoid colliding with the Cruze, but also clipped the wire cabling, and came to a stop a short distance away,” the report read.
“As the driver of the Cruze stepped out of her vehicle after the crash, a Mitsubishi Triton drove past the incident, allegedly crashing into the female driver,”
The Andrews Farm woman, 44, died at the scene.
McGinley was allegedly behind the wheel of the Triton, which was found abandoned 1km from the scene.
Magistrate Terrence Forrest adjourned the case to Adelaide Magistrates Court as McGinley faces a serious, major indictable charge.
The police prosecutor asked for at least eight months to consolidate evidence.
McGinley will face court again in March for charge determination, bail will continue.
