A POPULAR Golden Grove shopping centre will soon boast three distinct precincts focusing on dining, fresh food and fashion under a $14 million overhaul.
Work has already begun on a facelift and expansion of the Golden Grove Village shopping centre – and should be finished by the end of the year.
The development proposal was submitted by Challenger Ltd, an investment management company, and approved by Tea Tree Gully Council.
On-site construction began in April.
It includes a fresh food hub, along with the relocation of several fashion stores to the specialised clothing precinct near Big W.
The food hub will welcome a number of new tenants, including Tony & Mark’s, Barossa Fine Foods and a butchery.
Challenger head of development Karlyn Maldonado said the upgraded centre would have a distinct “marketplace vibe”.
“At Golden Grove Village we provide our customers with convenient, family- friendly shopping,” she said.
“We look forward to improving this experience, with the facelift making Golden Grove Village a dining and shopping destination.”
She said the centre currently serves around 100,000 regular customers.
Supermarkets Foodland and Woolworths underwent refurbishment last year in preparation for the planned development.
The existing food court will also have a makeover, with an emphasis on casual family dining.
An outdoor children’s playground with external landscaping and alfresco seating will be built too, along with upgrading of the entrances.
This redevelopment follows other major construction initiatives at Golden Grove.
A 130-place Montessori Early Learning Centre is to be built by the entrance to the Stables Shopping Centre.
With a price tag of $2 million, it is expected to create 85 local jobs and be completed by February.
Modbury Triangle is also also undergoing change with several new tenants moving in.
They include an Australian Red Cross Blood Service donor centre.
This project is slated for opening by the end of the year.
