The newest shopping complex servicing the booming Adelaide Hills centre Mount Barker will open in just over a month.
The new opening date comes as online rumours regarding Mount Barker’s second McDonald’s on a neighbouring site were squashed.
Woolworths Mount Barker South is set to open on August 23 with staff expected to start as early as next week.
The centre, on Wellington Rd, is set to include a full-line supermarket Woolworths, BWS bottle shop, pharmacy, and multiple specialty stores.
Regional Development Australia Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island chair James Sexton said the preparation for the new store’s opening had gone smoothly
Mr Sexton said shoppers would have access to a state-of-the-art shopping centre next month.
“Woolworths have all their staff starting Monday and basically doing in store training, the store is getting fitted out and they start filling everything and stocking everything up,” he said.
“It’s a super energy efficient store, they’ve got solar on top, extra heavy insulation, extra large airlocks and a real push to cut down energy consumption.”
Mr Sexton squashed online rumblings that the neighbouring proposed second McDonald’s store would not go ahead.
“Maccas is going through the council process, it was before the DAP (Mt Barker council’s Development Assessment Panel) yesterday, they’ve just got to redo some signs and come back,” he said.
“It’s only a minor revision (to plans) … some signs were too high.”
The new shopping centre is the second large retail precinct to open in Mount Barker this year, after the Aston Hills Shopping Centre – which includes a Drakes Supermarket – opened its doors in March.
