Looking for a place to stay that’s right off the map – and surrounded with peace and quiet?

A groovy off-grid tourist accommodation that sleeps two people has been proposed for a rural property near the Victorian border, with an outdoor bath and sunroof.

The tourism development would be built at Lot 201 V&A Lane, Penola – a property that already has an existing water course and buildings for vineyard plants and equipment. Another site on the land has also been reserved for future tourist accommodation.

The grass-roofed holiday home would be decorated with glass-coloured bricks and positioned within a clearing amid vineyards featuring an “undulating terrain with scattered trees throughout” a report states.

It would be powered by solar PV panels and a battery.

“A waterbody is situated to the northeast of the designated location for the proposed accommodation structure.

“Based on the information provided by the client, the proposed tourist accommodation will consist of a single bedroom tourist cabin.”

The bedroom will be located in the same 21 sqm room as the kitchen, with a door leading to the 15 sqm sunroom where the outdoor bath can be accessed.

The application was submitted by Earthship Eco Homes, which aim to introduce more energy-efficient and water-efficient eco homes to Australia.

Each eco home contains solar and thermal systems, and is constructed with natural and recyclable materials.

Earlier this month, a development was proposed for the construction of four eco-friendly 65 sqm tourist accommodation cabins in Currency Creek.

Cabins and orchards would transform a 1.285ha property on the edge of the Murray Mouth near Goolwa under a proposal to help boost tourism in the area.

Submissions for the Penola development close on April 18.
