Concept plans for a new children’s play space and youth activity hub have been unveiled for one of Mount Gambier’s most popular leisure areas.
Mount Gambier’s Railway Land Precinct will become home to the two new spaces as the local council develops the city site.
Plans for the children's’ playspace features a train-themed nature playground inspired by the Lands past life as a rail corridor for the city, including slide, climbing areas, train play area, suspended netting crossing and seesaw.
A basketball and netball rings, pump track, skating units, gym trampoline and even outdoor phone charging outlets are in line for the youth hub.

The kids’ playground is planned to be built opposite the existing creek bed on the western end of the precinct, while the activity hub will be located at the eastern end, opposite Bay Rd.
Council is seeking feedback on the designs as it looks for grant funding alongside its existing budget allocations for the sites.
City Infrastructure General Manager Barbara Cernovskis said the playground’s concept came from more than 70 ideas from locals.
Concept designs for the youth activity hub were developed after community feedback and council strategies regarding the city’s desperate need for a central space for youths.
Ms Cernovskis said the local community has loved the Railway Lands space for almost a decade — following its establishment in 2015 – and it was time to refresh the space.
Consultation closes on September 1 and you can see the plans here.
Meanwhile, work has started on the ‘Learn to Ride’ playspace at the western platform at the precinct.
The “Learn to Ride’ space was the first of the three Railway playspaces to be endorsed by the council back in June and is expected to be completed within the next six weeks.
The valuable facility is designed to replicate elements of typical traffic settings including roundabouts, speed bumps, crossings and parking areas, to help children learn how to navigate these environments safely.
